Been to my dealers today to try and figure the reason my tailgate will open every time but not close (hands free operation).

Colin from service came out. Tried the loan car also.

Worked with the key in my hand but not in my pocket.

We all tried it. Worked sometimes but not others.

Verdict - No fault with the car. Signal not getting through thick pockets / closing not as sensitive.

Any other solutions gratefully received. ??
I’ve found setting the tailgate height limit just below the maximum makes handsfree closing a little more consistent, but closing success rate is poor (no idea why this helps). It seems to work better if done in quick succession to opening, but not if you wait 10 seconds to say… unload the boot.
Your verdict sounds like an issue with the car, not sure how the dealer concluded no fault with car.
If the dealer has been able to replicate the issue then that proves the issue is the car and they should be escalating!

WRT to the rear tailgate, mine opens 100% of the time with a foot kick. Far less so closing it.

Actually not bothered- whenever I 'kick' it open it's because I'm steering a shopping trolley and want to unload it easily. Once I've loaded the boot I instinctively use the button on the left of the boot to close the hatch.

Top Tip- keep a couple of bungee straps in the small trays at the rear of the boot and use the ample tie down loops to secure your shopping.

After 15 weeks of ownership, last night I saw my second MME on the road. The first was a Rapid Red RWD ER at the beginning of July and the second was a Infinte Blue AWR ER. Ironically both cars were driven by the same person. Long story. It was also the first time Black Beauty had been driven in the dark. Must say, the headlights are awesome

I bought an elasticated cargo net from eBay for £6-odd. It's not quite the right shape for the loops near the boot lip but it stretches enough for it not to matter.

Can get three bags of shopping under it, plus one either side and loo rolls up against the back seats. Not much moves.

The other option, which I have done, is to recycle the boxes that the supermarket uses for it fruit/veg deliveries. Don't have to pay for them.

I THINK this one can only be purchased up to the day you pick up the car. If you find I am wrong please let me know because I'd like this warranty as well!
Yes, unfortunately for you (and Tony.T), you have to buy the extended warranty prior to registration...

" When can I buy?
Ford Protect Extended Warranty Plans can be purchased up until the vehicle’s first date of registration. "

Not sure about that- my dealer said you can buy the warranty up to one month after handover and subsequently sent me the price list.

My AWD ER reset to 309 miles on 100% charge when I collected the car. Although my real world driving is now less now that the car has learnt my driving style…

Have you reset the driving history? It’s under vehicle settings.

i haven't done anything other than bring the car back from the dealer. unfortunately a life event happened and hence i had to get back quickly.

i will reset and check it out.

but, way i understand from reading this forum, what gets displayed does not matter much since it is just a guess.

Yes, you are correct. The dealers have up to a month to purchase this on your behalf.

My dealer did it for me.

Too late for me! I emailed the dealership MANAGER about this a couple of days after picking up the car and got no reply!

But it does look like a warranty can be purchased 90 days or less before the manufacturer warranty runs out - this is part of the reply I got from FordProtect after I tried to get a quote :

"Regarding your query, I can confirm I have looked into this for you and our website error message states that your vehicle age exceeds the age criteria. As your vehicle is currently still under manufacture warranty, we would unfortunately be unable to provide you with a quotation this far in advance.

Please feel free to visit our website to retrieve a quotation at www.myfordprotect.co.uk or contact one of our advisors on the below telephone number 90 days prior to your current warranty expiring.

If you have any queries, please contact the Ford Helpline 0203 510 0062 between the hours of 8:30am – 5:30pm Monday- Friday. "

I must be blind as I have driven 5500 miles from west wales to Skye and across the country to Canterbury and not seen another mme. They are definitely not common yet. Unfortunately buying an ev has it's drawbacks - had to buy an ID3 for my wife as she refuses to drive an ice anymore !!
