No. I order most of my cars. I remember following the progress of the freighter across the ocean as it was bringing my 2006 MINI Cooper S to the US.

Since my wife and I got married in 1997, we have purchased 8 new cars, counting the Mach E GT, which is the only one that was ordered to spec. Also purchased 3 used cars. On some of the other ones we did search for matches on options and color and were able to find exactly what we wanted.

My first and only special order was this 2012 Boss 302. I'm hoping the endgame for the Mach is better!

My first special order was a Poniac GTO Judge
I've always like those cars. My friend has two of them, a 69 and a 70- both Ram Air IV four speed convertibles.

Wow that sucks. I have seen multiple new-ish cars wadded up worse than that at track days. It always worried me. Did insurance cover anything?

I had track insurance, but my regular insurance ended up covering it. Long story, and they raised my rates.

This was my first special order. For all the flack Ford takes over it, I liked the process and would do it again.

For those who have done this before, do you generally have to pay MSRP if you special order? The Mach-E is in an unusual position now because it is so in demand and supply is currently limited, but if you special order a vehicle that the dealer already has 10 variants of sitting on the lot, is it fair to say they are much less likely to give you a break on the price?

On the Focus RS, I paid a $2500 ADM. On the GT500 and both Mach-E's I paid MSRP and all the others were below MSRP. #17

We ordered one other new car (2003 Subaru Forester XS) to get the spec we wanted, but it only took a couple weeks to show up so we're thinking it was incoming inventory anyway. We've had two or three dealer swaps to get the spec we want. This is the first "real" ordered car where we've had a significant wait and the first time paying MSRP*.

* - IF the dealer doesn't try to screw us after our MSRP purchase agreement...we haven't picked up the car yet. Frankly, I don't have a problem paying MSRP if "everybody else is doing it", and IF all goes well, I kinda like this process.

MME is my 11th new car (including the ones for my wife and kids), but the first special order - it's totally out of my character to wait for anything, I'd rather get something that is not exactly what I want (I wanted a light interior on my 2009 Forester XT, then 2019 BMW X3, but couldn't find any). Now I was forced to wait, and it was painful, even thought I am one on the short wait side of the spectrum. Really love the car, still figuring out some settings to make it to full satisfaction.

I’m glad I started this thread. Participants have so many good stories to tell.

455-HO then. A friend had his and hers ‘71 Judges. He also had a ‘70 high-compression 455-HO GTO and a ‘66 GTO. He bought another friend’s ‘68 GTO for his sister. I guess you could say he liked Goats.

In answer to the thread, not my first special ordered car. My ‘79 Trans Am was special ordered and I let the dealer talk me out of a couple of options that I later installed on the car anyhow.
