That is a bummer. So maybe our C-Max plates won't transfer to the Wrangler then. The 3rd party agency that handles all my title/registration stuff said it should transfer but maybe not? I guess we will find out when the paperwork comes in the mail. ?

Owners of the plates may also choose to transfer their plates to a new, qualifying vehicle until March 2.
That's March 2, 2020, so I think the agency people are misinformed. This is also the additional reason, I replaced C-Max with MME. I was originally considering Escape PHEV, but when that didn't happen, I moved on.

Also AZ plate almost matches the color of my grabber blue with white stripes:

Arizona has Alternative Fuel plates for BEV, some PHEV owners, CNG and fuel cell vehicles. Allows HOV lane access with a single occupant and very reduced vehicle license tax. I think I end up saving about $4500 in VLT over a 5 year period compared to a similar value ICE vehicle.

I think we'll all be dead, but some day Alternative Fuel will mean gasoline.

At the current pace, I think it will happen in my lifetime. Assuming I don't get hit by a bus or something. ??

Not in CO, although looks like there's a bill pending.

The real question is... Why? What will it be used for?

The registration fees (including whatever the counterpart there is to the missing gas tax funding for roads) are a whole different matter than whether the plate itself actually says "EV" or not.

I hope it wouldn't be used to make it acceptable to block a charger. They shouldn't go by the license plate for that, they should go by whether it's actively plugged in or not.

In the UK we now get a green strip to signify an electric vehicle.

I think they look absolutely awful so will stick with normal plates. There's no advantage to the green ones as anything EV specific can be checked via automatic numberplate recognition software (e.g. entry into low emission zones).

Does Denver have HOV lanes on the freeway? That's a big advantage of the plates here in AZ.

I already showed this in another thread but Illinois mandates all electric vehicles to have this plate which costs $100 more then other plates to renew. There is talk that perhaps the law will be changed so that in 2022 you'll able to have vanity and personalized plates.

Not at this time in NH...
The great news is that there is no additional fee at all (town, county, or state) on EVs.

Most of them are toll lanes now, and EVs don't get special treatment in them. I think they did for a year or two but not anymore.

NC will issue special plates if 500 signatures are collected on an on-line site petitioning for "EV" plates.

is there a custom EV plate in your state?

EV-license-plate-NC.jpg
Virginia has “Clean Special Fuel” plates that you can choose for a BEV or a plug-in hybrid from a particular list. They cost a little extra per year, but they allow you to use the HOV lanes outside the Washington DC Beltway if they’re not marked as HOV Express lanes. We aren’t required to get them, because they will automatically make the registration for any plate for a BEV $80/year (I think $80) more expensive to cover the lack of gas tax.

It is likely ICE will be banned or require a very expensive permit to operate in congested areas such as downtown centers in major metro areas. If/when that happens then the special plates will become more practical.

No, but in CA we can apply (for an extra fee) for single rider HOV sticker, that's valid for a limited time.

Nope, but as of this year, in Kansas, ALL standard personalized tags celebrate renewable energy:

1621704193101.png

Of course I had to get one for my Mach-E
These plates are suuuuper ugly. Way darker and uglier in person than depicted above. Even if you support wind energy, you can’t even make out the turbines on the real plates and they’re basically solid dark brown with a hint of yellow.

I was going to get one that said COALPWR, which is still available in KS. And the irony would have been enhanced if anyone could make out the wind turbines. But the plate was just so ugly that I couldn’t pull the trigger. :(

They really are SUPER ugly. I was disappointed how drab it makes the back of my car look. I thought it wouldn’t be as bad as the sample they had hanging in the DMV, but I was wrong. I know it’s supposed to depict a beautiful colorful sunset on the open plains, but they failed miserably (probably due to contrast and legibility requirements)

And you’re right about the turbines being obscured, you pretty much have to already know they’re there to see them.

But hey, I’m happy to support the wind farms in large parts of the state.
