They really are SUPER ugly. I was disappointed how drab it makes the back of my car look. I thought it wouldn’t be as bad as the sample they had hanging in the DMV, but I was wrong. I know it’s supposed to depict a beautiful colorful sunset on the open plains, but they failed miserably (probably due to contrast and legibility requirements)

And you’re right about the turbines being obscured, you pretty much have to already know they’re there to see them.

But hey, I’m happy to support the wind farms in large parts of the state.

That was a beautiful plate. (You get a turbine there, too). I’m really annoyed you can only get the current plate.

A couple of weeks ago I ordered the California 1960s vintage style plate. Putting it on my Fusion until the MME gets here. People are going to wonder about the plate on the Fusion. ?

Yeah, I do. Really wish they'd used those sunset colors again!

In Illinois, the electric license plates used to be $18 a year compared to $100 for ICE vehicles. This year they increased the ICE vehicles to $150 a year and the EV license plates are $250 a year because EVs are not paying gasoline taxes that go towards road maintenance. So much for incentivizing electric vehicles.
There is legislation that hopefully will get out of committee and be voted on to add vanity and personalized plates for electric plate category. Won't affect their base cost though, still $100 more than regular plates; the state is broke. They're going to tax everything they can as well as stick us with these exorbitant fees.

PHEV (originally also included plain hybrids)tags are slightly different and haven't been available for a few years. Now they aren't even available for transfers.

Also 5 year registration is available and of course no emissions testing.
I registered my Bolt for 5 years, the total cost was $54.

Michigan does not offer EV plates, but they do offer special fees - $135 a year on top of registration. We have plates with the U of Michigan logo, which also gets U of M a $10 donation.

In Missouri we don't have special plates instead we have to put on an alternative fuel decal on the front windshield. $75 per year regardless if you renew your plates every 2 years https://dor.mo.gov/motor-vehicle/fuel-decals.html
Did you actually put the decal on your car? I think it's ugly and don't see a point... I'm curious if I can just keep it with the registration. If it was a small sticker, I wouldn't mind, but I don think it's obnoxiously large (bigger than a post it note).
