Large non-IT related corporations often have rigid compensation structures, with HR departments that are not experienced or skilled with IT staffing. And with corporate management that is not appreciative of the importance and value of the IT hire and that is not in tune with current IT recruiting and compensation strategies.I'm a UX designer, and had the exact same thought as you. And at the time, they were hiring UX designers, but the salary was such a drop off, that I never really considered it. If they really want to get competitive in this space, they really need to get competitive, and that means from a talent and compensation standpoint.
