The headlight setting is a knob to the left of the steering wheel, not software. So maybe that got bumped or changed accidentally.
I had this happen to me more than once. I was getting the chime and could not figure out why. It turns out that when getting out of the car, my knee could bump the knob for the lights, and turned them on.

Agreed with all the posts above @Ford Motor Company
I already reached out before with feedback about these bugs. Dealer can not fix these, software engineers need to get these ironed out. Maybe @Ford Motor Company should make a nice offer $$$ to an Apple/Tesla/favorite-tech-company software engineer so that someone can get these issues resolved.
These bugs made me want to work for Ford and help these issues fixed so I went on their website and saw a remote connected car devops engineer role and laughed when I saw the high end of their salary. Its very hard to steal engineers from big tech companies when the pay sucks. Just my two cents - I have worked at AWS and now Microsoft and have seen the crazy offers other tech companies make to poach employees and I know Ford just wont be able to keep up. As much as I want to help fix these bugs, I still want to live comfortably.

This is a great example where @Ford Motor Company's social media presence would note that repeated mention of this bug, and then say "we've reported this up the chain". Of course, then it's an acknowledged problem with legal ramifications.

OP here - I think some folks who owned or would have liked to own (I.e boomers) a Mustang back in the day are drawn to this car. However I would now recommend to folks that if you're over 60, haven't bought a new car in 5 years or more, or are not that comfortable with technology, or any combination of those -. fahget aboud it,. If you have issues navigating TV remotes - don't even think about. If you have uncontrolled high blood pressure - go elsewhere, or up your meds!

Wow... I fit one of your criteria and take exception to it. ;)

I think there's no less than 5 times that I've said on this forum "If my dad was the one with the MME he would be cursing up a storm".

When I say it, it has little meaning because I'm in my 30's... So hearing you say it is a nice change of pace and I would agree that for some people (not all) this car might be challenging for them. My dad loves custom ordering Porches because he can still get analog gauges instead of digital.

I'm not sure how I spawned from my dad, but my maternal 92yo grandmother wants a new iPhone and iWatch this month, so maybe I got more of my mom's side!

Wow... I fit one of your criteria and take exception to it. ;)
I agree. He left off "grumpy and stubborn" so you don't qualify completely ?

Your driver door unlock issue is known, documented, and fixable. Take it to your dealer and ask them to apply SSM 49676. See this post for more information.
Why this doesn't come as an OTA update is a mystery to me, but your dealer can fix it.
Thanks so much!

I ended up forking out almost 400 to get a 2nd key. 277 for the key the taxes and labor cost. That one stung a little. Zero regrets on it but I am hoping ford will admit their mistake and give 2nd fobs out to people and refund the ones of us who did buy one.
Paak just was to flacky mind you huge improvement after the update.
/rant

Last time we went in, we complained to everyone about the damn PAAK, and the issues. like 'No Key Found' etc.

The Mrs. stuck opening the door with codes etc and what if it happened when it was dark etc.

No problem, that's ~$400+ for a new key!

WTF?

Everyone from ~July 6 build gets a second key BECAUSE FORD IS ADMITTING PAAK IS CRAAP.

and what happens with you go to sell your car? 'Hey buddy, where's the 2nd key?" "What? EVERYONE GETS A 2ND KEY." "You best take off $400 because I'm going to have to get one."

Okay, I'm an early boomer who in 1970 purchased a Z-28 which I still own and drive. The performance specs are almost identical. As a techie I like new toys. I was really aggravated at some of the issues and think my car is possessed. Now most of the time, I find it amusing. One of the wakeup words for voice control is California. Now I just laugh. Yes the wipers wipe in the garage, and yes I swapped out a Samsung for a new iPhone to get PAAK working, which is doing much better. You should have owned one of the computers in the late 70s. Cassette tapes then floppies. Keep saving your file before the thing crashed again. Things will get better, so for now enjoy the ride.

As competition increases (see GM's launch of a new Silverado) things will have to be so that us old folks can drive them. (Oh my younger wife only drives the MME if I'm in the car, and lets not talk about the 5 remotes)

Ok - this is a rant. If you don't like rants don't read this - please!

There are so many issues with this car, primarily the software which is soooo bad and irritating and frustrating to continually deal with. I love the driving experience but the technology experience - not. Overall not a great experience. Here goes...

FordPass Issues
Not consistent recording Journeys

Problem setting up Preferred Charging Times - Wont let me set 'when plugged in' - produces error msg sometimes.

Freezes sometimes when trying to load screen to set charge times etc

Home Screen does not reliably update charge and range. Says 'updated just now' but data is a day old.

Paak does not reliably open car. And No key found error frequently, so with only one fob must use the access and backup codes.

View Chargers on home page does not reliably return any results (no results found) even when sitting at a charge station

Trip planner view trip does not show the city for each stop

Charging Times not honored. Stopped because Departure Time but no departure time is set.

Sometimes won't honor specified Manual charge settings times or max % charge.

Fordpass won't connect to car periodically.

Foot swipe opens hatch 1/2 the time, and sometimes it stops lifting part way through.

In car with phone - says Bluetooth not connected sometimes.

GOM - Premium AWD Extended - 160 mile winter range in temperate climate with a full tank. And that's about what I'm getting

Automatic headlights work most of the time but not all - unreliable.

So unreliable and unpredictable - not what you want in an automobile.

Ok I feel better now. Oops - made the mistake of trying to view the charge status. FordPass sits and spins. Lovely.
When was the last time you had a software update? Might need to be done manually by your dealership. I had a few of your issues, but got the update, smooth sailing! After the update I had to go back thru and reset some of my personal settings tho. Found this out week or so later, when I traveled with my dog and alarm was triggered!

Ha! Yes I had a Camaro Z28 back in the day as well. Really fun. I’ve been a software engineer, system architect, IT project manager for too many years to count. Wrote my first FORTRAN program in 1967 and had an Apple IIe in 78 or whatever. But this vehicle drives me bat shit. My wife had a good suggestion. Turn off everything you possibly can that implements the ‘I’m smarter than you’, or ‘I’m going to help you’ (in a very unhelpful way) philosophy. Then ignore everything else. Basically behave like you’re driving that Z-28 where the most complex piece of technology was the headlight switch - but so fun to drive!

I am with you on the rant completely. I do feel it was complete BS that I had to fork out 400 for a new key simple because PAAK is so flacky. The number of times I would have to mess around to get the phone to Fing work as my my wife always had the key.

If ford had kept to only giving out 1 key to everyone yeah still be annoyed but it is completely different when Ford turns around and hands everyone from July 6th on 2 keys. That to me puts massive grounds for a class action law suit and I would love to see Ford try to defend only giving the early models 1 key but later ones 2 keys. I would be happy at this point with just a $417 check from ford to cover my cost. Hell they could just reduce my loan balance by that much and I would be happy.

The whole charging planning, scheduling, computing, executing thing would be nice to ignore since it’s complex, unreliable and inaccurate, but difficult to since the car needs juice to run. I’ll probably devolve this process to a) plug it in whenever it says Low Battery and leave it until I need to use the car again b) For trips plan on refueling every 200 miles or less during warm months and 150 miles colder seasons. Simple right? Hmmmmm……

We have a solar power array and it would be great and green to charge while that system is producing power I.e 10-5. But I think I’ll wait to implement until the software functions reliably, if that ever happens. But as hbirring said, hiring poorly paid software engineers is unlikely to produce desired results. Given the issues here my guess is that the corporate structure and culture, with a newish IT sandwiched between the mechanical and electric designers and the marketing and bottom line folks, it’s not fun to work there and the really good IT folks are frustrated and not listened to. I’d like to be wrong about that,

I'm a UX designer, and had the exact same thought as you. And at the time, they were hiring UX designers, but the salary was such a drop off, that I never really considered it. If they really want to get competitive in this space, they really need to get competitive, and that means from a talent and compensation standpoint.
