Hi, I just talked to my Allstate Insurance agent about their easy mile (pay by the mile) auto insurance offering for cars that are not driven much. I plan to drive my Mach E about 4000 miles per year. To participate one needs to install a device in the car that tracks the mileage. Kind of works like IPass where you get billed monthly based on usage. I've moved over two of my cars to the plan and then my insurance agent says the mileage tracking device is not compatible in the Mach E. Not sure what that means as he could not explain. Does anyone know? When I receive the devices I will dig a bit deeper but thought I would ask for now in case anyone knows. thank you

Sorry, can't help. I have zero interest in anything that puts a tracking device in my car.

Those devices plug into the OBD Port of the car. With electric cars the OBD port is not backwards compatible with gas powered cars, at least from what I've read. So they are saying the device that plugs into that port won't work with the MME.

Your car is a rolling tracking device... The insurance the OP is talking about is used by senior people pretty frequently or people who just don't drive. You are given XYZ amount of miles, if you go over you pay extra, stay under and you get absurd cheap rates.

Not sure why you would buy a MME and not drive it, but to each their own :)

It's not my bag (I drive 24,000+ miles a year), but I think a mileage tracker isn't a bad idea for those who drive well under the average that insurance companies assume (~12,000 miles a year, if memory serves).

Keep in mind that the trackers they use also track speed, accel/decel, and mileage. If you drive hard for those 4,000 miles (you go out and shred it up every day), your insurance rates will go up. If you drive like a normal human being, you might end up ahead.

I'm pretty sure that if I signed up for that program, my rates would go up substantially :)
