SSM 50415 - 2022 Mustang Mach-E - No Longer Equipped With A Hands Free Liftgate System - Built On Or After 03-Jan-2022

2022 Mustang Mach-E vehicles built on or after 03-Jan-2022 are no longer equipped with a hands free liftgate system. The vehicle is not misbuilt. The addition of any parts is not a warrantable repair. Do not submit a claim for this condition.

Bunch of us aren't going to be happy about this one...

Ok I just verified on my window sticker, it now lists "Power Liftgate" and no mention of acoustic glass. My car is "In production" as I type this

Just curious... is that $2,000 regional adjustment the price adjustment for orders placed before the cutoff? If so, that's the silver lining on this sticker!

There may be some variation in functionality afterwards depending on the trailer hitch model, but I would expect the hands-free liftgate to work. Some factory trailer hitch installations requires replacing the (lower) hands-free sensor/antenna which may run flat along the lower edge of the bumper, because the OEM hitch sits relatively high from the ground and cuts into the bumper cover and the replacement sensor stays above that intrusion.
will Ford be able to install the hands-free at a later date?

That setting (on/off) exists.
Thanks - I have always left mine on so never looked to see if I could turn it off - nice to know. When carrying objects to the car (groceries, etc) its a pretty nice function. Works 90% or so of the time for me.

It's not just Ford people. It's all manufacturers having to make cuts due to the chip shortage. Some BMW models were built without an active touch screen. Some models don't even have powered seats. Some Porsches are being sold with only 1 key with a promise to provide the 2nd key once conditions improve. So, deleting the foot activated lift gate is not that bad of a trade off imo.
Don't be an apologist for Ford. If I wanted a de-contended MME, I would have ordered a Cali Rt1. Why am I waiting 28+ weeks for less of a car than what I put a deposit down on? I want to be able to set the height of opening so that it does not strike the garage door. I really want that ability and ordered the premium for that reason.

You should still have that ability - the delete is just for the "kick to enter" feature, not the power liftgate itself. You set the height by manually moving the gate to the height you want, then press and hold the gate close button until you hear a beep. That will then set the max height on powered open (from the app, large screen, or button on the hatch).

EDIT: Not apologizing for Ford, customers have a right to be annoyed by this change, just wanted to clarify that the specific feature you are asking about doesn't appear to be impacted.

Hands free opening had nothing to do with a power lift gate nor the ability to set the maximum height for the lift gate. You’ll still be able to set that wherever you like as long as you ordered a Mach-e test includes the power lift gate.

The thread on the problem with the kick sensor and garage doors is replete with horror stories.

If your key or Paak just happens to be within range and something triggers the sensor (unclear what did it with the folks in the thread), you're SOL with a huge dent on the hatch.

I have a small garage and my MME is right up against my garage door. See photo. There's no adjusting the height to avoid a huge problem if the stupid bug Ford has with this sensor happens to me. Just in case, I have foam on the exact places the hatch would hit were it to open, but I don't want to rely on the hatch hitting the foam and having no other damage.

I'm sure it's a lovely feature (that wasn't tested enough by Ford in small garages....) but there's no frekin way I want to have my hatch screwed up because of it.

PXL_20220123_070615793.jpg
BTW you'll note in this photo I have foam at the places that I've determined the hatch would hit were the worst to happen and it were to open in the garage if it was up or going up, but obviously I haven't fully "tested" this (and don't want to!). The idea is the hatch should hit the foam instead of the metal hinge right above it. I also have foam for when the garage door is fully up to ensure the hatch never hits the door, even if it loses the height adjustment I made to it.

Foam with adhesive backing is readily available on Amazon and seems to be a good idea if you have a small garage like me.

I was looking forward to trying the kick sensor but was going to turn it off since too many people have dented their tailgate by it mysteriously opening. I may still pad my wood garage door to prevent any denting, regardless. I hope my GE PE does have the acoustic glass. I bought my MKZ instead of a Fusion for that very reason. Not happy about any reduction in what I ordered but not much I can do. c'est la vie (that's life)

It’s a ford bulletin for the dealers.

it’s probably a chip issue. Please note that it talks about hands free (the kick to open). It does not mean that the liftgate is manual. You can still press the button, which is what I do 99% of the time anyway.
Is this that stupid waive your foot under the bumper hands free thing? Or does it remove the app button (which of course requires hands). Because that feature is one of the dumbest “innovations” of modern cars. Fix my Air Recirculate button first!!

It is not the stupid waive your foot. I wouldn't waive my foot, I like it.

It is the kick your foot movement sensor, yes.

It only works half the time anyway...I don't see this as a big loss. IMO

Ditto on this or use pool noodles (that's what I did, had some spares laying around).
