Hands free liftgate troubles

2022 GT

We've had several people try over the course of the month we've owned the car. We've spent probably a combined 20 minutes trying to get the lift gate to open.

Not once.

It's enabled in the settings.

When I get under the rear of the vehicle, I see no equipment that resembles any kind of sensor. We're supposed to have this option, right? Can someone post what theirs looks like?

Unfortunately, this feature was removed for 2022. See this thread.

I think some people have found that their 2022 Mach-E was nevertheless built with the required hardware and found a way to activate it, think there is a thread on that here somewhere.

EDIT: Here is the thread that explains how to check to see if your car has the module, and how you might go about activating it, but you need to use a Ford tool to do it (i.e., some time and expense involved).

The sensor is inside the "diaper". Remove the little compartment in your second picture, then look in towards the bumper.

If you have the sliding switch for handsfree, then that's odd - because none of the 2022s were supposed to have it.

Also, it's not Ford software that activates it, it's FORScan.

Wow... so they really hid the fact that they removed it. We ordered a 2021 and got "upgraded". They informed us that the price went up. They did not inform us that they were removing features.

To say my wife is pissed off is an understatement.

Yep, lots of people are pissed. The good news is that your car likely has the sensor, and if so, it can be enabled with FORScan.

If you don’t see “Hands-Free” you don’t have it. You can probably enable it if you follow the steps in post #2 link.

Sorry to confirm that you got screwed by FORD just like me, no notice, manuals that say it's installed and the same button showing the swinging foot. I ordered mine in October 2021.
AGAIN Ford horrible communication.
