Avoid windshield recall as long as you can. (Until dealer has all backup parts)

I took my car in the beginning of February for the Windshield recall as well as the update. Things went smoothly, the loaner went smoothly. 1-4 days was my turnaround time.. Not a big deal, that was fine with me. Until it wasn't! The windshield shattered apparently and I am on a 2-3 week delay for another one because the dealer didn't have one in stock. (Which is silly to do this recall without having a backup plan).

I don't want to get on here to complain because I do still have a loaner, I just would recommend putting this off for a while because it isn't that big of a deal.. If you're anything like me. I am either charging for FREE at work or charging for half the cost at home. Putting gas in this car every week is having me spend more to not have my car than the other way around, which rubs me the wrong way.

Still I am thankful that I do have a loaner because I have heard horror stories of dealers not providing loaners for this recall. However I wish I would've waited until I knew they have done other cars or waited down the road when it was a bit warmer. The dealerships do not know what's going on.

Sorry you're dealing with that.

When/If I do the recall, I had planned on insuring they have an extra windshield on hand beforehand. One service person I spoke with seemed like that wasn't possible, as it isn't part of their "protocol" I guess? Not sure, but I won't have it done unless they give proof of a replacement readily available ahead of time.

Well you had a loaner. I did not and it took two four days shots to get both done.

Be happy you have a loaner.

I would recommend that the moderators and people posting these threads start thinking about the implications, and possible liabilities, of encouraging people not to have a safety recall performed. I get it, it sucks, and there are a lot of stories and incidents of bad things happening during the service visit. I think that would pale in comparison to hurting yourself and/or others if the failure described in the recall were to happen.

I never said to NOT have the recall done because I think for safety reasons you should have it done. I would say to delay until dealerships knew what they were doing for the recall. Of course safety is first, but this recall couldn't have been that serious if they are sending notifications for it 1 month later to "receiving a letter in the mail" to actually perform the recall..

That's what I would say to do it.. Making sure a second windshield is already available but that's silly to me why they can't it would make sense for everyone..

During normal times, a dealer would never stock a replacement windshield. In cases like this recall, if they broke it, worse case they would have one the next day from Ford. Given the current state of the supply chain, plus the fact that Ford likely hadn’t planned for extra demand due to the recall, windshields are not as available as they should be.

My dealer has sold (and will end up performing the recall on) just 2 Mach-Es. I have no hope that they’ll have an extra windshield on hand when I take my car in. ?

When my dealer did mine it only took them an extra day as the glass people had to redo the front windshield--it leaked after the first attempt.

Other than that no issues. Sorry you're going through that.

What irritates me the most about this goes back to build quality. I expected better from Ford!!! We had a Ford C-Max with the glass Pano Roof for 7 years and No problems with the Roof or the Windshield!!

FYI I received a recall reminder and update notice from Ford that the cost of providing a loaner during this work is now part of the recall and no longer up to the dealer.

The recall always included Ford paying for a loaner. If you don't get one, your dealership is not doing the recall properly.

Even if you didn’t buy from the servicing dealer?

This is a SAFETY RECALL.

The loaner is paid for BY FORD, not by the dealer.

Every dealer should be doing the recall. In fact, one would question if a non-EV dealer should have to do it, because there is nothing "EV" about the recall.

Thankfully, I don’t have to go through this one, sounds like a PITA
