Hi there -

I coincidentally placed my order last Thursday, 2/10, the day before orders were supposedly going to be shut off, although checking earlier today (2/14, noon PST), it seemed I could still place an order - I got as far as the screen to type in a credit card number and stopped.

I ordered a Premium, eAWD, ER, Rapid Red, all the extras (tires, floor mats, etc).

First off, anyone have any valid idea on when I might be able to take delivery?

Secondly, I'm trying to understand this allocation thing I keep reading about - the process is unclear on how to best get a Mach E - by choosing a dealer, are we directing a sale to that dealership, or are we getting in line on that dealer's allocations, behind whatever number of people have already ordered from that dealership?

I've seen comments on this forum that indicate it isn't a simple "get in the one big line and you get your car when your number comes up" situation, it sounds like order to delivery times vary wildly even for cars placed at about the same time.

So should I place another order with another dealership? Should I be looking elsewhere in the state (out of state doesn't make financial sense since I live in California, registration rules etc)? Should I be researching dealerships based on what their allocation is and how many orders in front of me?

What's the best way to approach this? I read elsewhere there was a three month delay announced for some folks with placed orders, on top of the 28+ weeks for Premium models that would be over 9 months from now - quite possibly into next calendar year.

Thanks,

-mike

Allocation, I believe, means each dealer (or perhaps region) is allocated a certain number of vehicles. For instance our local Ford dealer in Fairbanks could probably sell every 4WD F150 they could get. Unfortunately they are only allocated a certain amount. There are some ways to improve that but sometimes it involves ordering vehicles that do not sell as well in order to increase the F150 allocation. So in my case I know I was the only 2022 Mach E order in Fairbanks at the time so I am fairly sure I had a high priority allocation-wise. I do not know how many Machs are being built this year but the allocation method ensures they are distributed around the country. Fair - maybe not - but I believe that is essentially how it works.

You have no idea what any dealer's allocation is.
Your 2/10 will be at the very end of the 2022 model year, i.e. made in September or October maybe, and delivered in November or December.

Let me take a stab at your question based on my experience so far. Take it for what it's worth or a grain of salt.....

You will read many horror stories as well as success/happy members on here but since you are new in ordering.....It may or may not apply to you.

According to Ford: 28 weeks total time from order, built, and maybe delivery....

I ordered from a local dealer after negotiating no ADM.....
Order date: 10/21/21, Ordered confirmed from Ford & Dealer 10/28/21, Email confirmation from Ford......

Around January 2022 timeframe, I decide to text my Salesman to see if he has any other info using his Dealership tracking tool to Ford....
I was told my build week would be today 2/14/22 (Valentine's Day) or so forth....

I received an email from Ford not too long after confirming exactly what my Salesman told me.......

Since then, when I check the Ford tracking website, it states my GTPE is in Production but no date listed ....I confirmed the same thing with my Salesman.....

BTW: I always ask him to send a screenshot of what he sees from Ford...Which he always do/does.....lol...Cool Dude....

If I do my math right.....I am only 14-15 weeks in from my order confirmation date of 10/28/22.......I don't expect it sooner then the 28 weeks they allotted from the original order.....If I get it before, Wonderful/Sweet/Hallelujah...........CAN"T W8 because I sold my Audi waiting for this MachE

I believe Ford will work out the bugs/kinks/issues/drawbacks by using the Scrum framework-Agile approach......

I think people like yourself who is now ordering may not have issues like the earlier rounders.....IMHO

Best of luck

You have no idea unfortunately. I’d suggest ordering from two dealers and cancelling the later one, but that only adds to the markup situation. I think it might be too late now since ‘22 is supposedly closed.

I’m in the 9 month club, still waiting (chip delayed). Decent chance you might be delayed into next year, plan accordingly. Don’t sell your current car until your Mach-E has arrived at your dealer, you have no idea when or where you car will be held up for months. It might end up being a ‘23.

A critically important addition to what the initial post in the link above references for the prioritizing process… Ford CEO has recently been very open that in this component constrained environment they are prioritizing where they can maximize profit. I am assuming this means GT/GTPE MME’s are going to get a higher priority than a Select, and also that the states with regulatory credits for EV’s will get priority since it allows Ford to sell more high margin SUV’s and trucks. Based on those I see with pretty quick order-to-build date, to me they appear to almost always be a GT/GTPE.

I ordered a Premium AWD ER in mid January and have settled in for the long wait. I have no idea when my car will arrive but have some fence posts in my head regardless. For me personally, anything earlier than August will be a very pleasant surprise, anything later than October will be beyond frustrating. I know others on this forum have had experiences both much faster and much slower than this.

Realistically, probably a November delivery to your dealership

Downside with buying any Mach-e used (already titled once) is if someone qualified for the tax credit, that could be viewed as a $7.5k ADM or $3.75k (if Ford hits 200k sold in the US in the latter part of 2022).

If that's the case, someone should just locate a dealer and pay an ADM to get it now.

It’s still $7500 until the second quarter after Ford sells 200,000 units, at that point the 50% decrease kicks in, not immediate.
