My Prem AWD ER RR was produced on 1/4 but now on chip hold with an ETA of 4/30. I’m pissed at Ford for lack of communication so started down the rabbit hole of looking for something else. I currently drive an old but fully loaded BMW X5. Me and Betty have been together a long time. She has more bells and whistles than my new (TBD named) Mach E…(Which is sad since she is a 2012). Anyway, the only EV/hybrid that has caught my eye is the premium Toyota Highlander. I like the fancies, captain’s chairs and 3rd row. It’s also closer in size to what I have today and isn’t a million dollars. Should I pull the trigger on the Highlander Hybrid or wait for the Mach E? The MME is definitely cooler, but who am I kidding? Imma baseball mom ?

I say wait for your MME especially it’s built, the chip hold situation will eventually resolve, and my wife concurs. She’s currently driving my MME until her Taycan CT arrives. She’s enjoying it a little too much and I’m afraid she’s not going to give it back…

Even though we haven't been told we're on chip hold, we're hedging our bets and going to test drive an EV6 tomorrow. If things fall through on the Mustang, we might go ahead and get the EV6 or a hybrid of some sort. We would keep the order for the Mustang and once it arrives decide what to do.

Let us know what you think and how the EV6 compares after you drive it. I have a Mach-E ordered but I'm about 50/50 right now between the EV6 and Mach E... I haven't had a chance to drive either yet.

You and me both. Will be watching for any of us that switch to EV6.

I love my car. It's the best car I have ever owned. Is it perfect? Nope. Nothing is. But it is worth the wait, IMO. I look for excuses to drive it.

After test driving about everything that may have fit our family requirements, Highlander Hybrid was the only other vehicle my wife seriously considered. Then she test drove a Mach-E and there was no question in her mind which one she really wanted. But if the wait is too much, I won’t blame you for going with the Toyota. But it is not going to be nearly as much fun.

Same here, I’m always like “I’ll drive!”

It’s really tough to play the waiting game when the true situation and timeline from Ford is clear as mud. Theoretically my car will be built early next month, but who knows when I’ll actually take delivery due to chip holds and other delays we don’t fully understand occurring. Like others above, I went and test drove an EV6 a few days ago. Compared to the EV6, the Mustang has better looks, storage, ride height, and wireless CarPlay going for it (and a pano glass roof, if you like that). But on the other hand, the AWD GT-line EV6 has way faster DC charge time, performance (it’s slightly faster to 60 than the premium AWD MME), ventilated seats, vehicle to load, a battery heater, thicker tires, a more settled suspension - and a sunroof that actually opens, if you like that. It’s a really tough decision and honestly my choice is probably whatever I can get sooner, because the wait is killing me.

To OP’s point though - hard to blame anyone considering other options right now when we don’t know what the true timeline is from Ford.

I nearly chose an EV6 over the MME - it is a really nice car. A few comparative notes after a lot of research:
-it is less costly for relatively equal models
-it is quicker for the money
-it is more tech-y, and personally I find the design more sci-fi and austere...but also colder and not as organic - choose what you prefer
-the interior feels a bit more cramped - the roof and sides are closer to you as compared to MME. Keep in mind I'm 6ft 4, 215 lbs - so it may not be as much of an issue for you
-a bit less interior storage space
-the trunk (AWD only) is good for cable storage and pretty much nothing else - is tiny if you go AWD
-no wireless Apple CarPlay/Google equivalent
-not as tall as the MME, and I think (but am not sure) a lower seating height - you may or may not prefer one over the other. I liked the stepping into MME height better, but again I'm tall

Overall, EV6 is a really nice, fast, fully featured EV - definitely worth consideration. But I ordered the MME.

I like Toyotas. They are rarely fun, though, so if that's a consideration, maybe look at an Acura RDX or MDX.

IMO hybrid is only halfway there. Go full electric and lose the maintenance and gas dependence entirely. Personally I think the MME looks better than EV6 and has a marginally nicer interior.

That said I’m pretty much decided on the Volvo C40. I just have a stronger emotional response to the look and feel which out weigh the subjective downsides.

Go with what makes you excited. Don’t be too pragmatic.

You probably won’t be at the top of the list for carpooling without a third row, but your kid’s friends will be totally impressed with the MME when he shows up for the game!?

As a household that has both a Premium MME and a '19 Limited Highlander Hybrid, I'd be glad to field any questions you may have.

I'll say this though, 7 months since taking delivery of our MME, we still get excited to drive it and it's our go to. The features aren't comparable. The Highlander is a solid car but it's not exciting and doesn't have many bells and whistles. And yes it's a hybrid but based on it's size the MPG is only around 28 for our '19 model.

We've taken our MME cross country with 2 kids and a dog and did just fine with the space. The only time we need the Highlander is a vacation we're bringing lots of stuff (i.e. beach rental). The captain's seats are nice but like most 3rd row cars, it's tight.

The wait for our MME was tough and Ford's lack of communication is a big missed opportunity IMO, but the MME was well worth the wait.
