Don't put the garage door opener in your pocket when switching cars. ID10T error.

When I was first trying to set up Homelink, I was having problems with it. The car was in the driveway in front of the garage, and I thought maybe I needed to be closer, so I pulled about halfway in.
Realized the error of my ways when the door started to shut, and fortunately was able to stop it in time. I think my sensor is low enough to the ground that it was under the body of the car and not blocked.

Oh, and speaking of dumb things that we've done with our garage door openers:
I couldn't find the opener that I had kept in my previous car. I looked all over for it. After a few days, I was 90% convinced that I had left it in the old car when I sold it to CarMax. I don't like hanging it from the visor, and my Caliber had a pop-up compartment in the dash that I stored it in. I'm pretty sure it was still in there when I sold the car to them. It had been a few days, so I called and asked if they could check if it was there. The lady laughed at me and said "Oh honey, that thing is long gone. We don't keep the cars on the lot." She was kind of condescending and I think she wanted me to argue with her, but I just said "OK, thanks" and hung up.
I reset the opener and reprogrammed my wife's remote, just in case somebody finds the old remote and tries to use it.

Almost did the same thing...put the clicker in my pocket, and then the light came on in my head...and I said...STOP! take out the clicker from your pocket. Whew! Good luck getting yours repaired and sorry to hear... :(

When I put the car into park, it triggers the garage door opener. First time bringing it home, I wasn't sure if it would fit through the door so I stopped, put it park to look and the garage door started coming down and hit the hood!!! I backed out and put the car in park again and it triggered the garage door again!

It scratched the hood but it's should buff out. Still horrible for the first day of ownership.

Parking outside until I can figure this out...
Occams razor - you bumped the button when it was in your pocket. I have two 20 year old Craftsman garage door openers and neither of them have ever been triggered by the car.

So top tip for everyone else. Don't take the garage door opener out of your old car and just shove it in your pocket. I guess you always fret the first scratch on a new car so I got this out of the way early and it looks like it will buff out.
I used to keep my non-MME key loose in my pocket. I discovered that if you held the unlock button for 5 seconds it would open all the windows and the sunroof.

Not good when you are in a building and there’s a snowstorm outside. The keys are now kept in a non-faraday hard key holder so the buttons can’t be pushed. It’s keyless entry.

On a related note, those of us without the powered rear hatch can't adjust the open position. I discovered that my hatch opens far enough so that as the garage door is opened it could hit the opened hatch. By an amazing stroke of luck it turns out that there is another gas spring that can be used in place of the MME OEM gas spring that results in the hatch being somewhere around 4" lower when fully open. The lifting force is a bit lower than the original but has worked fine through the very cold winter we've had in Michigan this year.

I used type 4838 which I got from Lifts Support Depot, but they are available many places. They cost around $17 each. These were made for a car from the 80s IIRC, but seem to be readily available.
