So I took the plunge yesterday thanks to the encouragement and help of @DevSecOps and this thread.... Went great without problems. Off to a day trip to Sonoma tomorrow over the Golden Gate Bridge to test out the new charge curve.

I used:

An Etsy sticker I got fit perfectly on the little laptop, and I think assisted the process significantly.
Ooh, I like that idea of the pl6100 with adaptor. I guess that's fair because you won't be drawing over the 15 amps on this car.

Also, I agree that sticker dramatically must have helped. Maybe if I get that I could get 1.7.1's APIM update to take. :(

On that last note, guys with year sub's to FDRS please let us know when a new APIM shows up with more interesting application instructions. Like a USB to USB connection... Hoping Ford will keep their word and release it "any day now".

GT's came from the factory with BlueCruise enabled. Probably why it fails, its already activated.

my truck has the same feature available for my F150. I'm waiting for someone to try it and say whether it enables bluecruise before I buy another license for FRDS.

I did updates to the DSP, GWM, OBCC, PCM, SOBDMC on February 12th. I was curious about the GWM because it is setup like the APIM. There are applications that do something, and VMCU (vehicle mounted control unit) firmware interfacing the applications to the car's CANbus and other modules.

Powerup 2.1.0 added additional application part numbers to the GWM and Powerup 2.3.0 added one additional application part number to the APIM. The GWM update allowed me to poke around the firmware files. There is a text header in .vbf files that usually has a description. There was text in other files that had descriptions of the various applications.

The GWM runs QNX, an unix-like Real-Time Operating System (RTOS). It is home to a number of features.

Connected Blue Zone (CBZ) is the engineering name for BlueCruise. GWM pieces were added in 2.1.0. It appears one purpose of the recent GWM update in FDRS is updating CBZMAP, maybe extending the expiration until November.

I do not have any of the BlueCruise controls in the cruise control settings, so more pieces are needed.

I just updated the software modules for my GTPE (produced in December '21). I wanted the updated charging curve. Went smoothly enough. My 2-day FRDS license expires today. I'm no expert on these things, so thought I would ask: is there anything else I should do with FDRS before it goes bye-bye?

Dang it now I want to blow $50 to try it on my 1.7.1 stuck car. I have to say that $900 sub is calling my name. But $50 once a month is only $600!
As a fellow stuck 1.7.1'er, I fully support your blowing $50 to find out for the good of the cause :)

Ford removed the bluecruise prep feature sometime this morning :(

Have any of you with the stuck 1.7.1 update tried using the recovery method for the APIM where you have to plugin a USB-A cable directly into the APIM module (Meaning you need to take part of the dash apart)

This will reflash it like it would a mobile phone.

Be very careful and pay attention to how much it downloads as the Ford server thought my Maps were updated and didn't include them in the second stage where you have to plug in a USB drive.

I had to get my APIM repaired.
