Well at least the car was nice (albeit covered in salt) for 2 months.... No idea how this can happen from a rock (or something) thrown up from a normal passenger car ahead of me. We heard a massive bang on the top of the windshield/roof area and I thought for certain my windshield or pano roof was cracked to hell, but my wife quickly checked with a flashlight and nothing. Well we park and see this on the glossy black strip that runs the length of the roof next to the pano roof glass (see pictures). Perhaps I got a little lucky considering how expensive and involved the roof replacement is. I still cant believe this kind of damage (and considering how loud it was) could be caused by a rock being thrown up from a small passenger car but i guess its possible. We didnt see them throw anything out the window (although it was dark) and there was no overpass or anything overhead, it happened on an entrance ramp to a freeway which I assume is more likely since the car infront was accelerating. The damage is huge for a small rock though, its bigger than a silver dollar (5-6cm)
Any ideas how to make this look better for now? Second, is that shiny glossy piece replacable on its own? These pictures were taken at night, if need be I can take new ones in the day light.
Thanks much.
