I forgot which EV showed you how much range you have like a fuel gauge then showed real time as you turned features on and off how much you impacted it
EV6 gives a preview of range impact when various options are selected. If it's accurate, I think that's a really nice touch.

Do you know if those customers are happy with those types of displays or are their forums still full of "What's happening?!?"
There will always be people that aren’t happy, but it seems like less people would be unhappy if they better understood the drastic effect things like HVAC have on range. The only other car forum I frequent is for the RAV4 Prime. There are plenty of people there that complain about electric range, but nobody questions the GOM’s accuracy, and everyone understands how much range they gain by turning off the heat because the GOM tells them.

You answered what I was attempting to ask which is are they complaining about the GOM and did the dealer install the wrong battery?

The Focus Electric had a really cool "Status" display that was a +/- value meaning different things:
  • If nothing was set in the nav the Status value was the difference between the "full" range and your projected range now. This gameified your driving incentivizing you to drive more efficiently each time (always want a positive status value)
  • If a destination was set in the nav the status was the difference between the current projected range (e.g. GOM value) and the distance to the waypoint. Thus if status was <0 you're not going to make it (e.g. slow down). If status was >0 it was how far you could go beyond the waypoint.
Once you understood how status worked it was a cool way to know your efficiency at a glance.

I liked it a lot and wish the Mach-E had something similar...
It sort of does if you look at route details on a trip. It will tell you the predicted battery range once you reach that destination/waypoint.

To be clear, it does update, just not that drastically. It updates over time. I've literally seen it go up while driving.

You are right though that a lot of cars (including my former Fusion Energi) do change "in real time".
I think it is because the battery is so small by comparison. A small change makes a big difference.

Right but the Focus' status was an indicator on the dash and live while you drove.

Wow, that’s common sense, having the GOM tell you that you can increase range by turning off accessories. ??‍♂?

While that may be common sense, if EVs are going to become more widespread they are going to have to deal with a lot less common sense and a whole lot more general public

Displaying EPA range would be about the dumbest thing you could do. Common sense tells you that range estimates are only accurate under a constant environment. If you commute the same route everyday, your range will likely be spot on.
I guess they could put a snowflake and heat icon next to the range when it’s affected by outside conditions. Although, people could just research a little before buying something…

I like @Motomax 's idea of a snowflake or something similar next to the range in the IPC. They could also add a popup message on the Sync screen describing the effects of cold ambient temps and heater usage on range.

How about simply a video on the screen as a new owner tutorial that explains it? We have a nice huge screen, use it.
