Hi All, Now don't jump in the middle of a husband/wife debate, but has anyone had trouble closing the charge port door? My wife is the primary driver of our MME Select and charges it nightly in the garage. More than a few times she will call me out and say that she cannot close the charge port door. I am able to do it after several tries. I feel like I am able to put my Fonzie jukebox move on it (really not my fist, just fingers in the right place) and close it. Just does not seem it is as easy to close and stay shut than when it was for the first 1/2 year we have owned it.

Anyone? (Ayyyy...)

PS. If you do not know who the Fonz is, you are too young (and I am too old).

Sometimes it takes me 3 - 6 tries. Going to have it looked at when it's in next. Try spraying with silicone spray in the hole.

Good point Rick. Was thinking there may be dirt or something. Seems like it is not catching. Clean maybe first. I'm going in for windshield reseal soon, so may also have them look at it.

Same in my household. I close it first time, every time, while my father takes three or four attempts.

I find if you make a flat fist, and push the door on the catch/pin section, it works every time for me.

Works first try for me 25% of 80% of every time. May have to try @RickMachE’s idea of lubing the hole. ?

The Ford Sales guy that showed me the MME on the showroom floor tried 4 times to close the charge port, and called another guy over to close it, as we toured other aspects of the car. I am surprised it is not driven by an electric servo motor, with a locking feature. I was also a little surprised by the pull this lever twice to open the Frunk.

Two fingers directly over the center of the plunger on the door. Press moderately. That’ll close it 99% of the time. Do not press if yo one side or above or below the center, if you do you’ll be playing games with it.

I find I have to press directly over the plunger as if I’m forcing the door in further than flush with the car body, then the plunger (usually) engages. But it never feels like it securely catches. It always feels “wonky”.
Could someone please explain to me how a company that’s been making cars with fuel filler doors for at least 50 years, couldn’t get this down? Couldn’t they call Walt in the Fuel Filler Door department and have him reuse one of the thousands of trouble-free flapper doors they’ve designed? ?

I understand the Frunk 2x pull to avoid a in motion "accidental" opening. If you have ever had a hood fly open at speed, it can be quite an experience. There are probably ways to detect car in motion however.

The charge port door will be opened and closed when car is stationary. I think a mechanical fastener is ok as there is little value in remote operation. I'm guess ICE fuel doors are more for security and convenience.

Hoping Frunk gets a remote open via app. Electronic emergency switch is already there.

Not sure why charge port door cannot be a spring loaded one like ICE fuel door counterparts.

I use the back of my fist to apply pressure at the connection point and hold it for a second.

You cannot accidently open the frunk while driving, because you have to have the door open to pull the lever.

The chargeport door CAN open at speed. Mine did once. Warning came up on the screen. Luckily, it can't bend off with the wind because it closes in the right direction. I pulled off an exit, latched it, and off we went.

I find firmly pressing right where the plunger is on the door clicks it into place with little problems. It's when you try to close it like a fuel door (meaning just using the edge to close it and not putting pressure right where the plunger is located) is when the problems occur.
