A/B modules allows them to fall back to previous if necessary.
So that means flashing a module to the most current version and then performing a self test will fail and default back to the A partition?

If that is the case, then don't run the self test or allow the tech to override the fail so the B partition remains.

It really should be a similar process than the OTA. Does the OTA have to keep reflashing modules? Perhaps so.....that might be why there are 7 or 8 packages IIRC.....

I don't get what is so complicated about adding BC anyway. Enable the eye nanny, load the pretty blue skins and we are off. What else is there? Oh yeah, the maps to determine when it's okay or not okay and also is likely used to weed out the subscription skippers.

The biggest step seems to be updating the image processing module, which makes sense that would need an improvement for Blue Cruise. That update takes an hour OTA, and you to 4 hours at the dealership.

The IPC is the camera that scans the lines in the road....correct? What else does it need to do differently for BC? Isn't it just ACC without having to hold the wheel? The GT I drove seemed that way to me. It wasn't any different than ACC except the graphics were pretty. Maybe I am missing something......??

I’ve never used Blue Cruise, but I’ve heard from those that have that it’s much better about not ping ponging between the lines. So that would lead me to believe it’s doing something different.

So, even if you are skipping one or more updates, it can still fall back to the original one. Plus with a hardwired update, not OTA, they should be able to simply try again. Ford has to be able to program the modules with nothing installed. OTAs are different because it could brick your car at home.

Interesting. My car never had that problem until after the attempted BC update. But that is beside the point.

This brings up an interesting observation of mine that might be pertinent to the situation. After the failed BC update, I noticed the navigation seems especially sensitive in respect to my location on the road. It was generally pretty good before but now it is hyper sensitive. To the point where it shows my exact location in a parking lot (including the path to get back on the road) or even can sometimes show when I change lanes.

I wonder if this is related to the BC functions? Here are some screen shots from today. I was in the second lane over from the left and then a double turn lane appeared and the arrow placement was accurate. At the next intersection, I changed lanes to the turn lane and the arrow changed lanes too.

Part of me thinks this is just coincidence. The nav can't be THAT accurate unless maybe the camera is sharing the lane markings and relative position with the navigation software? Is that even a possibility?

Is that what the built in nav looks like? Not bad. I don’t think I’ve ever really used it. ?

I use it all the time. Best navigation system I have ever used. It knows when roads are closed, shows accidents, routes me on the HOV lanes etc. Very very good system.

I recently had the Blue Cruise update on a Job 1 vehicle. Works great! Did a 100 mile round trip and BC drove 80% of the drive.

My car was a stuck on 1.7.1 for six months and I was more concerned about having this issue resolved but asked the dealership to do all available updates. They did everything that was available at that time except for a HVAC update. They ran out of time and wanted to return the car before the weekend. Of course the very next day another bath of updates were issued.

For some reason after picking up the vehicle, I couldn’t get BC to engage. The notification popped up saying it was available and I selected OK but would not engage on two major interstates.

Later in the day while running errands my wife suggested trying it again and it worked just fine. I went back to the interstate and tried the two that wouldn’t work earlier and everything worked fine.

I’m not sure why there was a delay in BC not engaging, I didn’t do anything different but for some reason there was a delay.

Another thing was it took about eight days for BC to show up in Connected Services. I did start a case with Ford on the issue, not sure if they activated it because of the open case or just took time, and then yesterday I received a message in the FordPass app that I now had BC.

Still waiting to see an OTA to verify it’s operational.

I have to say, I’m impressed at how well Blue Cruise performs. I did a short trip from Madison area to Waukesha Wisconsin doing the return at night and I only had to take control a couple times out of reflex not because of any issue, self preservation. I’m curious as to how BC would have responded but had my in-laws in the car and I didn’t want any hard braking to scare them. I think my mother-in-law was already freaked out I wasn’t holding the wheel.

So overall I’m very pleased with this feature and functionality.

EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE WORKING FINE, INCLUDING BLUECRUISE,. Even PAAK seems to be working.
Thanks for this post Beachcats. I was searching the thread to see if anyone got BC working. Hope I am this lucky when I take mine in for the 10,000 mile service, recall repairs and BC update.

It appears form the posts here that those with BC have Sync 421. Does anyone know what OTA PowerUp version 415 would be equivalent to? I remember a thread showing some of the relationships, but could not find it.

Also, I see in 415 for Sync the lane alerts seem to on on all the time, or is that still tied to the lane centering switch on the steering wheel? I will try it later today but was wondering if they changed that at all.

I encourage you to ask the dealer to do the BC update 21G01. The dealer may need some help from Ford but they are more likely than not to succeed. If you don't ask for this, how long are you willing to wait for OTA? Your expectations for a reasonable wait and Fords expectations for their timeline could be very different.

No, that's not correct. Many have Sync 364 including myself. 415 was from the redone modules.

BlueCruise installed on my ME via OTA. When enabled I had Sync version 358. After OTA 2.5.3 Sync updated to 364.
