Yes, that announced that they'd be moving to Android automotive for the in car is, starting with 2024 MY, I believe. That does inherently include Google assistant. But I would guess that'll include new hardware so I'm not holding my breath for that in our cars.

I'm not too sad about it though, since AA gives me Google assistant all the same

The android automotive platform will be completely different and won't work on current hardware from what I've been told.

I wonder if the 3 year trial will only be for 2022 cars or if that will extend to 2021s as well. The article from May said it would, but it also said it was coming soon.

The 3 year free trial started when Ford announced they would be building the Mach-E, so it has already expired... LOL

Yes, both years will get the free trial. I would assume time starts when you take delivery or get the OTA update.

As I said in another Alexa-related thread…I don't leave Apple CarPlay at all while using any of the cars I own. The Ford UI could be a large middle finger with the word "SYNC" tattooed on it and I wouldn't care all that much. As long as my phone connects to the big dumb screen, it's fine.

Yeah it’s not a surprise. Google probably requires a decently modern chipset and from what I can tell the Mach E’s processor is from 2002.
