Hi,

I would like to use the car hot spot to share my android phone Data plan. I don't want to subscribe to at&t ford plan... Is that possible?

In our Volvo, we can share Internet from phone via Bluetooth and then set up the car wifi hotspots to share the phone Data... I'm not force to use the built in LTE modem.

Since the Mach e have wireless android auto and/or Bluetooth I thought there might be a way to share Internet to the car with one method.

So can someone tell me if this can be done?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can do this wirelessly by enabling your phones wifi hotspot and tethering feature such that it acts like a wifi router. Then on your car simply go into wifi settings and connect to your phones wifi hotspot.

Hmm not sure about that.

I want my kids tablet to connect to the car wifi hotspot that is always on by default.

Using my phone as hotspot for the tablet is my backup plan. I don't want to open up hotspot feature in phone everytime I need it.

No, you cannot use a different provider. Connecting the car to a WiFi network does nothing to fit your needs.

Sorry but it does not work that way. The wifi hotspot for the Mach-E is configured to share the cell data from the cellular modem in the car, nothing more.

On most phones enabling your pbone as a wifi hotspot is just 1 or 2 button presses away, and isn't exactly hard to do.

Ok thanks.

Yeah I know it's simple to do... But I would have like to avoid picking up my phone while driving when my kids want my internet connection.

Thanks anyway for confirming it can't be done.

what is the advantage of enabling the MME wifi hotspot that your phone can't provide?

If you are using Wireless CarPlay or Android Auto, it connects to the car using Wifi, and you can't share mobile hotspot. You can plug your phone in for wired CarPlay/AA, but it's nice to not have to mess with it too.

I had it in my F-150 for about a year, and it was great to have, especially in cases where I got out of the truck to go into a store or something and the wife and kids stayed in the car. But it has limitations too, it goes through a proxy server and the data speed is limited due to it. I ended up just buying a portable Hotspot from Verizon that doesn't have the proxy speed limits, I can take it anywhere not just tied to the car, and it costs the same per month. I am glad we have the hotspot option, but yeah overall its utility is limited for most that have modern smartphones.

I like it for dual mobile coverage. The car and my phone are different service providers. Additionally the car has a much better signal.

If you are using Wireless CarPlay or Android Auto, it connects to the car using Wifi, and you can't share mobile hotspot.
That depends on the phone. Many phones can have a direct connect to wireless AA while also connecting to a WiFi network.
