Long story short: we had ordered our mach-e back in October 2021, with a production date of 1/5. Shipment got delayed by 4 months because of chips and it finally arrived in Wilmington DE on 05/07/2022. Now it's been sitting at the lot for almost 2 weeks and the United Road delivery keeps getting pushed back every day. I've been emailing the dealer to find out more, and we decided to call him today to inquire again. He called back just now and said that he found out that the car has been damaged at Port Wilmington, and it needs to be taken to a body shop and will be delivered after the damages are repaired (which will be around $1,500). Ford didn't notify us of anything, and we've just been patiently waiting, but at this point it seems unbelievable and just absurd. I've been tracking other cars and other dealers near me and they've gotten deliveries without any issues. How realistic is this, and what should we do about it, if anything? Hoping @Ford Motor Company can find out more about this issue as well and have an official response.

$1500 doesnā€™t sound like a huge amount of damage, but Iā€™d wanna be sure itā€™s all done correctly and the car wonā€™t show it on a car fax

@Davedough has a GT-PE that was damaged before he took delivery. I am pretty sure this doesnā€™t show up on his carā€™s Carfax. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ©

I would ask them to provide transparency with photos and what is being fixed. Sounds like this is cosmetic and shoudn't probably be anything to be concerned about. Not ideal, but probably could be a lot worse...

Both dealerships I've been through have unanimously told me that the repairs are done by the recipient dealership. Vehicles aren't taken anywhere else for repairs.

Cars get dinged in transit on a regular basis. The vast majority are simply repaired and the buyer is unaware.
That's what I was wondering. Is there some threshold of damage where they have to tell you?

My GTPE was dinged somewhere in the rear door but My Dealership had it fixed before I picked it up and I was happy I couldn't tell where it was at anyway.....
I gss I was one of the lucky people with minimal transport damage.

Usually the dealership gets it fixed, not the transportation company.

Not necessarily true. Not all Dealerships have body shops. The receiving Dealer may coordinate the repairs. In Denver almost all rail damaged cars are taken to one Dealer that soes have a body shop.

This.

Iā€™ve also heard thereā€™s a sliding scale of damage as to just what actions will be taken. The fact that the estimate is $1500 and itā€™s being repaired is a relatively good sign. The extreme end of the scale is scrap it and build the customer a new one.

I would certainly like to know what was damaged just so I could inspect it. That being said if I can not notice it then basically as gos as new anyway. I did see someone post where the car was damaged when the delivery truck backed into something which damaged his Mach. It was fixable but in his case I would not have accepted it unless they replaced the quarter panel. $1,500 could not be much damage though. The extra time just adds to the frustration.

In california , state law says anything over $500.00 has to be disclosed. Some manufacturers have their own policies to disclose at a lower figure. Non discloser could constitute a buy back if owner found out after the fact.
