Yes. With the correct scan tool
Then what is the battery temperature under these conditions? The message is from a too high battery temperature or ambient air?

People are overthinking this.

If the car wants to cool, it will display a message on the dashboard. If it doesn't, then it doesn't want to cool.

If it displays the message, and you aren't plugged in and can't plugged in, the car will be just fine.
Interesting experience today - its 92 outside. I drove to the local gym, spent 2 hours there, drove back. 1 mile away 25 MPH both ways. Back into my garage, hook up L1 charger, and vroom - sounds like a jet taking off - the fans kicked in - but the charge light was blinking. So assume its both cooling the battery and charging too.

The whole point of the dashboard message is a shortened version of "Plug into a charger if you can so the 12V and HVB systems aren't drianed while the car cools the HVB to keep it in the preferred temperature range for longer life."

Not really. It's more saying "Plug into a charger so that shore power can be used to cool your HVB because it won't be cooled at all if it's not plugged in, which may lead to shortened battery life (if you care)."

There’s actually more to it. The battery coolant loop is integrated into the air conditioning refrigerant loop as well. So if it can’t cool with ambient air, it will also use the A/C. Most EV’s do this.
That’s neat! Learned something new.

This is a trick they use on some forced induction cars to cool the intercooler even more!

Usually around 30C if I remember correctly. Keep in mind this message only appears after you had been driving the car and it gets placed in Park. In that circumstance, the battery has been cooled while you were driving around.

The message is generated when ambient temps are high. I sometimes see it when the screen is only reading 107 but not always. I almost always see it when the screen is displaying 115 or higher. I really haven't figured out when it triggers.

Is there evidence to dispute that theory?
If you want to go against the recommendation of the owners manual for an unsubstantiated theory that's your choice. I've never seen any evidence that L2 charging is causing HVBJB issues.

Based on the larger thread posted Friday, it didn't seem that there was any concrete theory that was being shared(seems that some know, but think there is a legal reason they can't share). When I get mine, it will most likely be charged to 100% every time I charge it. In SC, we have no such thing as peak times, so we are lucky that we can charge whenever we want. Now, my coop charges $.10 per kWh, so it isn't like it is "cheap".

Why? Why not use battery power when not plugged in (and not On) to cool the batteries? Wouldn't it be better to use some battery power to save the life of the batteries? Isn't that why you hear fans running on Tesla's when sitting in the parking lot (not plugged in)? Sorry, that was a lot of ???.

True, but only because of the flux capacitor shortage caused by the pandemic addled supply chains. If we had the planned flux capacitor, we’d all be signing a different tune!

Some of us think that would be a good idea. Apparently Ford doesnt agree. Tesla thinks it is worth while to allow HVB cooling while parked off plug. That is one neat feature of theirs that we don't have with our cars unfortunately.

Okay, sooooo… if I plug in to my home L2, set it to charge anytime, and set the max charging level to something below present charge level (eg 20%), will the car use the available external power to cool the battery, or does it only do that when actually charging? I’d prefer to abide by the recommendations to drain the battery to a fairly low point (20-30%), then charge to something less than 100%, and do that as few times as practicable… but I’d also prefer the Vegas heat doesn’t shorten my battery life since Ford decided to preclude the possibility of the battery cooling itself without power connected.

Yes, but you can’t set the charge percentage lower than 50%.
