Had a glitch with the headlights today? Slightly different from the regular auto --> on. Maybe.

So I've had the glitch 2 or 3 times where the headlights switch from auto to on by themselves and I usually notice this when I'm about to get out of the car and it beeps at me to remind me I left the lights on. I just cycle the knob back to auto again and everything is fixed. Not a big issue.

But today I went to my car parked in my office's parking lot to get lunch and upon walking up I noticed the headlights were on. Got in and sure enough. I was off auto again.

But... I don't know maybe I was just tired or in a rush or just inattentive this morning, but I don't remember it beeping at me when I parked this morning. It almost seems like this time it did it by itself randomly sometime between getting to work and going for lunch.

Has anyone had this happen before like this? I guess it's possible I just missed it this morning. And it's not like the LED headlights are going to drain my battery totally dead after a few hours. But I'm concerned that if I'm ever on vacation or something that this could be cause for concern.

They will automatically turn off when they max out the timer.

What's the timer? 30 minutes like I get about my car shutting off when I'm hanging in it not driving?

I'm glad to know it'll shut off but, considering this is already glitchy, I don't know how much I trust it to turn off either. And especially weird that it must have just done this by itself sometime within 30 minutes of me going out to my car for lunch? I've been at the office for hours now so either it's going way longer than a half hour before shutting itself off or it just randomly decided to turn the headlights on while I was at my desk.

I’ve only had the usual glitch of them
staying on (from auto) after I shut the car off. I just cycle the knob to the off position and back to auto to remedy it. It hasn’t happened in a while. But now that I think of it, I wasn’t getting the beeping signal to tell me the lights were on. To be safe you could always throw the knob to off as you exit the car. It would an easy habit to develop.

I usually take a last look over my shoulder as I walk away just to be sure.

See but this is my concern. If what @RickMachE is saying is correct, it should have eventually timed itself out anyway. So even checking wouldn't have solved what apparently/might have happened here. I've been at the office since 9am. Went out at 12pm for lunch. Unless the timing out is longer than I thought, it seems it just turned them on itself sometime between 9 and 12.

Hmm, I’ve never had them turn on by themselves but I bet the glitch that keeps them on is overriding the timer.

I have had this glitch a lot over the last 5 months of ownership, GTPE. Today though it glitched when I opened the door. It definitely wasn’t beeping or lights on when I parked to run into the drugstore, but when I came out and pushed the door button, the car started to beep when I was getting in and the lights were in the “on” position. That is a first.

This is a well known issue. It can happen at any time, even when the car is off and you're not near it. I have experienced exactly this multiple times.

A little birdie told me a fix is coming....but not available yet. It isn't a software update unfortunately.

Yea it definitely beeped at me when I got in with the lights on. Which makes me think I couldn't have missed it beeping at me this morning. I've gotten pretty good at listening for it before getting out. And the MME is pretty good at beeping ASAP once you turn the car off (if it beeps).

Ugh. Glad there's a fix but not looking forward to heading to the dealer. Thanks for the heads up.

Are you PAAK or fob?
I carry my fob but PAAK is set up on my phone too and I always have that on me. So not sure which the car is picking up first.

I feel like things improved after I switched to fob only but I can’t say for sure.

I wouldn't care so much about PAAK since I only use the key part as a gimmick or once in a blue moon I need to move my car off the driveway for whatever reason and I already have my phone in my pocket.

But I do really like being able to remotely drop my windows in this summer heat.

Maybe a silly question, but why aren't you just leaving the dial in the auto position and letting the car manage the headlights as needed so there is nothing to remember or forget when entering or exiting the vehicle?
