Working as intended. If you don't like it you can disable it. Can it be annoying... yes, definitely. But if it saves even one life I am fine with the minor inconvenience of pushing OK.

This happened to me in the very first days when I had the car. Back in March 2021. After you turn on the car and apply pressure on the back seat, it does not seem to recognize the 'person' or pressure on the seat is not there anymore. Still a bug IMO. Bur turning the car off and on again seems to fix it. This is a computer on wheels after all...

It’s working as intended.

Kid unbuckles, gets out of their seat, the notice SHOULD show up.

Safety first, safety last, safety in the middle.

Most “safety” items are annoying. Parking sensors, back up sensors, pedestrian noise, back up beeping, door open dinging, lane departure warning, eyes on the road with Bluecruise, hell even seat belts are uncomfortable.

May save a life though.

Why do people keep suggesting turning the car off and on when you can just hit the OK button?

If all you do is press the OK button, you are missing out on SYNC reboots and Android Auto connecting and disconnecting and connecting and disconnecting and maybe connecting. Why would anyone want to miss out on these things?

I don’t think this is a bug. Just because the door opened doesn’t mean someone left the car. Someone might have opened the door to put something in the back, or accidentally opened a door not realizing someone was there, and closed it and went to the other side (like when picking up two kids at different schools).

If the person sitting back there was a kid, they might ‘know’ that when the car stops and door opens, they unbuckle and stand and get ready to climb out. If the kid is a preschooler or even a little older, they might not know to sit back down and buckle themselves back up if the car starts moving again, they might just remain standing in front of their seat. The alert is important for this kind of situation.

When I was 4 or 5, my mom was dropping my sister off at a friends house and I was also in the car. It was a Ford Aerostar, three row minivan. I was in the third row, my sister and grandma were in the second row bucket seats, and my mom was driving.

When my mom stopped and my sister opened the door and hopped out of the car, I also unbuckled and decided I would move up from the third row to the second to sit near my grandma. My mom did not notice this and started moving. It was a hilly area and we were going downhill immediately coming up to a stop sign on the residential street we were on.

My mom hit the brakes and, because I was still making my way from the third row to the second row, I lost my balance and went flying headfirst into the center console. We went straight to the ER. I still have a faint scar. Pretty sure seatbelt alerts didn’t exist back then for rear seat passengers.

Ok, what value is the below at all? Here’s the scenario: two friends and I were out to dinner. One in the front passenger seat and one in the rear seat. I’m driving home, come to a complete stop, let my two passengers out, and continue on my way. Why is Ford cluttering up my instrument panel with information about non-existent passengers?

It’s intentional. Ford is trying to distract you from the lack of a Frunk remote release.

A good feature for road tripping with a seven year old.

As a terrible sidenote, a few weeks ago someone in my community lost a child because they unbuckled and fell out the window. Annoying or not, it's for safety.
So, again, nobody is complaining about the sensor. It's good to have the sensor. To repeat: Sensor Goooooood. The issue is the alert not switching off when the person is no longer in the vehicle. If there is a sensor, it ought to be smart enough to deactivate the alert when the person is no longer in the seat.

It should ding one time if no pressure is detected in a seat after that seat has been buckled while the vehicle was on, regardless of whether the door opens. Kids can and do stand up ?‍♂

Years ago, we were following a car on the freeway. We watched the car go off the side of the road and roll over twice. We pulled over to help as did other people, it turned out that a child in the car had unbuckled the seat belt and the Mother was trying to get him buckled back up when she lost control. The child was unconscious and lying in the upside-down car. It does not take long for things to go very wrong.

Always good to check and make sure you haven’t left the random sweltering baby in the backseat like happens so often in Phoenix
Jes sayin. Maybe it’s a phantom baby sensor

See post 34.

Car doesn’t know if the kid just got out of the seat or got out of the car.

Any system that could tell that difference would cost a lot more and be more intrusive than hitting an “ok” button.

With every safety system, there is a balance between reasonable precaution and nuisance. They are supposed to be designed to strike this balance - not cover every possible contingency.

The “well what if the rear occupant unbuckles but then carefully stands in the rear footwell so as not to trigger the weight sensor” is a great example of one such rare contingency that tips the balance toward nuisance. Even for a child it would take careful balance to stand in such a small space without bumping into the rear seat.

Some of you are giving Ford WAY too much credit. This reminds me of some people trying to justify why Ford has made it impossible to permanently toggle off the alarm interior motion sensors. I’m using DUCT TAPE on sensors because of poor design.
