Yep. I seriously doubt there's any leeway that would be given by the state. Especially since it's not all-or-nothing here. They'd likely say "Well we're still giving you a tax credit, it's just $2500 instead of $4000, just be happy wit that". That doesn't make the $1500 loss any less substantial to us, of course, but it's harder to claim hardship. (Not that there would likely be a snowball's chance in hell anyway). Thanks to @dbsb3233 for trying on behalf of us in Colorado. It crossed my mind to reach out to some elected officials I know in the state, but I think the pandemic has blown a hole in their budget. Last I heard is that it was a $3.5 billion dollar hole in the budget due to the lack of revenue. I doubt they will be able to do much or that it would be a top priority when the legislature is back in session in January.
I know Ford isn't exactly floating in money either, but I heard they made some accommodations already to buyers in some European countries to help offset some tax situations. Right now, I think the incentives in Denver are at $1,000 from Ford. Maybe they can boost the incentive to $2,500 after January 1st to match what it is in some other parts of the country.
And I sure don't feel like Ford has a duty to make an exception and cut the price for us. They never promised delivery by a certain date, or year. But if they are starting customer builds next week, shifting the build date of a handful of customers up a few weeks so they can realize the extra $1500 savings seems like an easy accommodation that shouldn't really cost anyone anything. Might push the rest of the line back a day but that's pretty minor (and frankly wouldn't even get noticed).
I wouldn't have even considered asking if it were 4 months or something. But it's sounding like if we miss the end of the year, it'll probably be by just a few weeks.
