I am using Android Auto. This past week, Waze no longer is on my list of Apps and, instead, Google Maps runs when I enter a trip. I prefer Waze (despite its issues) because it provides police and hazard alerts. I have searched the forum and have not seen any other comments on this.

Any suggestions? Reinstall Android Auto, Waze?

TIA

Not sure how to solve your problem, but just FYI Google maps gets the same type of police speed trap and hazard alerts, and if I'm not mistaken they even pull data from Waze.

I get these alerts all the time on Google maps.

One thing i found at times is that Android Auto apps tend to dissappear at times like "Spotify" for me, and rebooting the phone usually fixes whatever it was that caused the issue, and the app appears in the list android auto app list again. You may want to try that.

Google bought Waze in 2013 for $1.3B.

What @DaMeatMan recommend. Fresh reinstall on your phone. I'm running AA on a Galaxy S22 and have had even Google's own YouTube Music disappear on me. This is to say even using the latest and greatest doesn't insulate from the buggy issues with AA. I use Waze for alerts as well. Yes, Maps has alerts but I feel the crowd sourcing in Waze is deeper. Why Google does not simply merge the two is beyond me. However, when it comes to navigation, I find Maps more precise.

My guess is that Google doesn't want to paste the social media/interactive environment of Waze into its tightly controlled Google Maps ecosystem. Google Maps is a major product, sold to myriads of other software systems around the world. Letting users directly edit it would be chaos.

Waze's campy feel and community serve as a valuable source of input data for Google's Maps product line.

This happens to me and the issue has been there is an update pending for waze in the play store. Once updated everything works as expected.

So check the Waze app in 53 play store to see if it needs to be updated.

Checked and no update pending. However, when I searched for Waze in the PlayStore, it showed there was an update. Thanks. Hope this works.

They definitely do not provide near same police notification. Waze has 10x the alerts on it. I compare them side by side all the time.

As far as I know, Google Maps does not crowdsource its information. It also does not not identify road hazards such as stopped vehicles.

Waze and Google maps are completely independent of each other and, while both owned by Google, do not share data. This is largely in part to Android and iOS rules.

Google does croudsource it's map data similar to Waze as of a couple years ago. You can report some similar data in Google maps. They make it a little less known because instead of a button you have to use the voice assistant on AA to make the report. On mobile there's a chat bubble with a plus in it to make the report. You must also be in navigation mode.

Waze isn't going anywhere. It was likely just a bug.

I use Waze only for its crowd-sourced speed trap alerts, which are still quite accurate in my experience. I really don't like the interface or all of the child-like "gamification", and I'd love it if Google Maps or Apple Maps eventually becomes popular and reliable enough with speed traps so that I could remove Waze altogether.

Then why is there often a little marker next to a report of an accident in Google Maps that says "reported by Waze user"?

I've never seen that before, but it could be that once the CEO of Waze left in 2021 things changed. He's on record many times saying that no data is exchanged between the two. A quick google search led me to un-authoritative answers both ways, so I don't know.

I must have a different version GMaps, as I have never seen this. Perhaps not available in Canada?
