After reading through this whole topic, it really seems like a profile migration issue. Because of the new SYNC version, there are significant changes. It’s really like upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows XP, not everything was going to be compatible. That’s why I also support the recommendation of completely deleting your profiles and re-creating them if you have any issues.
One thing I’ve noticed on here is a lot of people view settings as “set in stone” as in they never have to touch them again for the rest of ownership. Hence all the griping. I see settings as temporary, they will need to be checked/updated/deleted after every major update. Heck, just do a full reset after big updates if you want minimal issues.
Ford probably did not test the software with all these old profiles. Like almost any software dev, they are going to start with a clean slate of the latest version and test that primarily. The migration would be checked (“hey, it updated without errors, its good”), but not tested extensively afterwards. They should have asked users to reset their profiles after the update in the release notes to avoid unknown comparability issues. Or better yet, just automatically wipe all the settings during the update so everyone starts with a fresh profile afterwards. People would really complain about that, but it would be best in the long run to start everyone with a clean state. It’s just like the benefits of doing a clean OS install on your computer.
I’m not really seeing these issues on 2022s because we upgraded from a much more recent build that has a lot in common with 3.5.3 (it was a minor update compared to 2021’s).
Only big tech powerhouses like Apple, Google, Microsoft are going to support seamless migration to a new OS version. Ford just isn’t going to be at that level anytime soon, so expect the settings to get messed up after big updates.
