One thing I don’t understand. If we have a physical button for max defrost, why do we need a second one on the screen? Is there nothing else you could put there?

It's driven by regulatory pressure to have a physical defrost button as a backup in case the screen fails while driving. If they didn't also put a defrost button on the screen with the other controls, someone else would complain it's missing. Damned if you do, damned if you don't...

It's a Federal requirement? WTH. The nanny state is out of control. Well, I fixed that and love my hatch button where the defrost used to be. Middle finger raised to the regulators! :p

It can't yet, the video is showing 2023 software we probably won't get for 6 months.
God hope we don't have to wait that long for this change, you'd think if they feature it in a video the update would be fairly close to ready.

Press the defrost button on the display. Emergency solved. Easy peasey, lemon squeezey.

But, seriously. I have never, ever had a defrost "emergency" in the billions of years I have been driving. And have a screen failure at the exact same time? Anything is possible, but I don't need the government protecting me from every bad thing that could possibly happen, no matter how remote the possibility. Some people might need it, I don't.

All it does is make the car less convenient, and cost more. I bet Ford would have put the hatch button where I have mine now if they were not ordered to do put a duplicate max defrost button there by the almighty government.

We don’t have most current software and both me and my wife have gone to raise volume and instead it increased fan speed.

Pretty sure my piece of shit of a tesla model 3 doesn't have any physical button for this. how sure are you that this is a federal requirement?
