Entering the code + 8 on the driver's door is the easiest way, period.
I've had marginal success with that - I don't know if I'm pressing the numbers too slow, or maybe it's because my code ends with the 7-8 button, but it doesn't work well. Probably need to practice.
On a similar note, my lock button on the door pillar has been working a lot better lately.

Interesting. My code also ends with the "8" and always works. Of course, now, after I admitted that it works, it will start failing ;)

Can you reliably unlock and open the door using the code?

Admittedly, I very rarely use the door code. I just went out and tried it and the frunk opened no problem. :)

There are seven ways:
  1. Double pull release handle
  2. Press button on SYNC screen
  3. Press frunk button on FordPass app (endowed users only)
  4. Enter door code + [7-8]
  5. Double press frunk button on modified key fob
  6. Press emergency release button inside Frunk
  7. Jump emergency access leads in front bumper when 12V battery is dead

You left off the non-reversible methods...

2, 3, 4, and 5 don’t apply to job 1 owners, 6 is impractical for daily use, and 7 assumes you’ve already opened the frunk to discharge the 12V battery, and that you have a 12v source with you to use the jump cables to open the frunk.

Look on the bright side. The impracticality of #6 doesn’t matter because that button doesn’t work either in job 1 cars.

I thought the in-frunk button DID work?

@Jimrpa is incorrect.

I have a Job 1 car, with BCM update installed by dealer in September. At that point, (1), (4), (6) and (7) worked. Yes, the in-frunk button does work, not sure how or why one would use it. If you press it, the APIM will light up a warning and you will hear the grinding of the latch mechanism. I removed the dividers a long time ago, in anticipation.

With the FORscan mod to enable the Access Frunk button (2), that also works. The FDRS-only update (I believe) will also enable this.

That leaves FordPass (3) which would be the most useful to me, and I expect it will light up in the future, but I have been using the doorpost and the Access screen and I am quite happy that I now have a usable frunk. For those having trouble with the doorpost keypad, try holding 7-8 and not just touching it at the end.

I don't really care about the fob (5) as a) I don't have one with a frunk button, and b) I don't ever carry the fob.

So what you're saying is, 21MY Job 1 vehicles that have the GFM updated by a dealer or someone paying for special tools and software can open the frunk electronically...

Great, except for those Job 1 owners who haven't paid for tools or service time, lack the tech or mechanical know how, and haven't convinced a dealer to do this upgrade at no cost.

I wouldn't say you're fully correct or that @Jimrpa is fully incorrect here.

In general, when people talk about the lack of frunk button on job 1 cars, they mean without intervention. The BCM and GFM updates that enable it have not been pushed out OTA, and just wanting the frunk button isn’t a good enough reason for most dealers to install them for free. I enabled the frunk button myself, but I empathize with the job 1 owners that still don’t have it.

Yes, Job 1 2021's can have manual updates done so that all but #3 works.
