The Oahu dealers are far more likely to opt in than the other islands — 75% of the state’s population is on Oahu. The other islands are a big question mark. The markets are small, very small in some cases. The only dealer on this island has been uncharacteristically quiet when I asked if they signed up.
Just tell him that you’re taking your business to another dealer in Oahu ?

Is not part of the pressure to go EV Elite is the growing demand for EVs and government desire to reduce reliance on oil? Oil that is creating much of our climate change and contributed to our going to war with Iraq twice.
The Big Oil companies shot themselves in the foot with their massive gas price increases this last year. It pushed more people to consider going BEV faster than they would have before. We will see this most with people and organizations with fixed budgets that had trouble paying the increase in gas prices. Electricity prices, in most places, are controlled by the states. The states slow down increases stabilizing prices. Not seeing prices jump large amounts overnight is a major consideration if you are fueling a fleet of trucks, buses and cars. The writing is on the wall that our nation is going electric despite what conservatives claim.
Remember that we are in the second stage of BEV adoption. The early adopters were the first stage with all those short range electric city cars without any chargers. Now, in the second stage, you can buy cars that fill most peoples needs. Owning a BEV can still be an adventure. We are starting to see BEVs appear filling other needs. We are starting to see BEV pickups, commercial vans, and even medium duty trucks, semi's, and school buses. We are promised we will see more BEVs of different kinds and price points in the future. We will see improvements in the charging infrastructure with the new infrastructure law. The problems we see today will be addressed. Albeit too slow for some and too fast for others.
Third stage - second state was pretentious Tesla snobs engaging in morality-signaling by buying “rich bros toys” ?

That isn't how it works. They don't set the price. The commodities market does, based on a myriad of forward-looking supply-demand factors.

I'm surprised it's this many with that huge cost.
I've underwritten three large, Ford dealerships this year which include a full analysis of their financial with cash flow analysis. Trust me, they have the money. I would assume they see this as a one-time capital expenditure and long-term investment. I spoke to the sales manager at my dealership and he said they are going Elite, no question about it. As I've mentioned before in other posts, my dealer happens to be in a great market for BEVs.

Wow, a lot more than I expected signed up. I figured it would be about 1000 dealers but it's twice that. Maybe there is an option to drop out if they don't meet the expected infrastructure targets in time, and perhaps a lot of dealers are going to bail out in the next year if they can't make it happen?

The cool thing is this will dramatically expanded the DCFC network into rural areas, and where there would otherwise be no incentives or political motivation to install a DCFC. Imagine if approximately half the dots in the image above were DCFC stations. That's starting to look like a decent charge network!

Compare to the current 120 kW+ CCS network:

The Plugshare filtering is screwed up, there are many more 120kw+ chargers in Arizona and New Mexico. For example, EA has sites in Gallup and Albuquerque, and one in between.

When can we expect to see a list of dealerships that signed up and at what level?

It’s just another dot on the map. If it’s the most convenient dot, then it isn‘t weird.
I mean, I get what you’re saying. In theory. But first, does anyone actually like going to a car dealership? Personally I get a little anxiety just setting foot on a lot.

Second, I’m pretty damned skeptical how many of these chargers will actually be available. Something tells me the spots will often be blocked, or occupied with inventory.

If you look up dealer chargers on plugshare, they are RIFE with complaints about the chargers being blocked or inaccessible.

That isn't how it works. They don't set the price. The commodities market does, based on a myriad of forward-looking supply-demand factors.
Then why have they been reporting record profits for the first three quarters of 2022? They doubled their price increases well above what was necessary to address the other expenses for coming out of the pandemic and the supply chain crisis.

True. And the oil companies have been enjoying their profits driven by Russia's war on Ukraine. The last year have been month the highest profit for oil companies ever.

Because the price for their products are current in a high cycle, just like profits plummet in a low price cycle.

You're confusing the IMPACT of prices on their bottom line with then SETTING the price. Yes, they're hugely impacted by the price. No, they don't set the price. That's not how it works.

Among dozens of other factors, yes. There's a ton of things that affect the forward-looking supply and forward-looking demand in the market. (Forward-looking being key because oil (and gasoline) are traded for future delivery on the commodities markets, usually many months in advance.)

Everything from wars to weather to refinery fires to permitting to laws/restrictions to the coming wave of EVs and dozens of things in between all impact the supply and demand forecasts.
