FOOTBALL SEASON IS OFFICIALLY OVER; UPGRADE NEXT SEASON’S TAILGATES WITH MUSTANG MACH-E’S FRUNK

FEB 3, 2020 | DEARBORN, MICH.

Kansas City football fans can bask in the glory of a world championship – at least for the next six months or so – but for fans across the country, it’s not too early to start thinking about next season. Specifically, the tailgating.

Here are four ways football fans can elevate their tailgates for next season with the all-electric Mustang Mach-E’s front trunk, or frunk, a 4.8-cubic-foot plastic space – the equivalent to a 36-gallon cooler – that sits underneath the hood. (In a gas-powered vehicle, where the engine is typically located.)

The trunk in the front is about the size of a large cooler, so fans can forget about lugging a heavy cooler to a tailgate. Just fill the front trunk with ice and beverages and cruise right up to your tailgate. When you’re done, open the drain cap at the bottom of the front trunk and let gravity do the rest.

Sign up to bring a gameday spread best served chilled? Top off the frunk with some shaved ice to keep veggies, dips and even shrimp cold and ready to eat.

Feed an entire team by loading the front trunk with hot wings: you can hold more than 1,000 regular sized wings with the extra storage space. And don’t worry about the sauce – you can open the drain cap and hose down the front trunk when you get home.

Play a game of long-distance cornhole or show off your passing skills by challenging friends to a “closest to the front trunk” contest.

Deliveries of the electric SUV begin late 2020. Reserve the Mustang Mach-E to secure yours for next season.

I would like to request that when the Admin posts releases like this that they also include a link to the source.

Thanks

FYI the source press release can be found here:
https://media.ford.com/content/ford...ootball-season-over-mustang-mach-e-frunk.html

I have to add that there is no way I'm loading up my frunk with shrip+cocktail sauce and/or chicken wings! Sure let it drain out but you're still left with an icky mess that needs to be cleaned up. I mean I can see using it for canned/bottled beverages but putting unwrapped food in there...just no.

In addition: Is Ford claiming that when the hood is closed that the frunk is sealed up against road dirt, water, etc.? (Does Tesla claim that??)

Don't want to leave a trail of shrimp on the highway--that'd be an expensive trail.

Edit 3: There are videos:

These photos seem like they could have been the seed idea for a hilarious Super Bowl ad that didn't make the cut.

Start with something remotely sensible like the frunk-gating beverages, then quickly escalate to the absurd. Let the audience simmer on the thoughts of leftover pieces of rotting seafood in an inexplicably clean and sanitary front trunk.

Seriously, though, I love seeing that new view of the underside of the hood. It helps show how some of the frunk capacity is being achieved, and maybe some idea of how it could be sealed from the rest of the under-hood area.

Exactly. Kinda silly to pretend like anyone is gonna put actual unwrapped food directly in the frunk. A cooler, sure. Maybe even fill it with ice to put ziplocks of food in there in rare cases. But uncovered/unsealed food?? Almost looks like something someone would put together as a parody to mock them.

I agree with the above comments. The staged videos/photos of the uses are totally unrealistic -- unless it was made for outrageously comical commercial. A more realistic depiction would have been ziplocked food and bottles and cans sitting on ice being chilled. That said, it is great to see that the frunk was designed for more use than just storing random things. Makes you wonder what other design thoughts and features are out there that has not be published. Hoping that all the research and focus groups will yield to more pleasant surprises.

I just love that they had the sense of humor to come up with this, and then the higher-ups were cool enough to let them run with it.

It is interesting that the hood latch is within the frunk seal, it would seem better to have the seal be behind that.

Now that you mention it, you are right. I would think it would be better outside the sealed area.

By looks of the photos it does look like the frunk is sealed with a rubber seal and the plastic covering goes over it or just the correct size to go inside a little bit to complete the seal all the way around. Now this is just assumption but by the looks of the underneath the hood it does look like it completes the seal all the way around.

So, the original promos said 4.8 cu ft and the new tech specs say 4.7. The text says 36-gallon cooler - that's a big cooler.

Have we seen actual frunk dimensions? I'm wondering if my coolers will fit or if I'll need to shop for a new cooler, too.
