My Mach-E was broken into today with items stolen. Ford, can we have Sentry Mode?

By pure luck I was parked next to a Tesla, whose owner was nice enough to share the crystal clear video of the perp and his car which I could provide to police.

How would your Ford having sentry mode have helped? You literally said yourself that the crime was captured by the Tesla parked next to you with sentry mode…and yet the crime still happened. I fail to see how your car having sentry mode would have made difference at all. It sucks that the crime happened and obviously it would be nice to live in a civilized world where you could leave your belongings safely in your vehicle, but they committed the crime in plain view of multiple cameras and I don’t think that Ford adding a knock off sentry mode would have changed that.

That sucks, one reason why I tinted my windows, I don't like people seeing into my car. I do wish the Ford had the sentry mode as well. I had a dash cam installed first thing, no way I was going to leave a he said she said option on the table if I got in an accident.
What dash cam did you get?

Because when the police came a few minutes later I already had complete footage of the suspect's front and back license plates, entire car, him getting out and scouting cars, and then breaking into mine which I easily sent to them. Compare that vs a vague description provided by the witness who saw it ("in a dark sedan, medium build middle-aged man, dark clothes"). The latter is essentially useless.

So the cameras probably won't deter any crimes, but having that info can be very useful in solving them.

That really sucks OP.

The problem is, we can have a hundred cameras all over the place, it's not going to detour the bad guys anymore when they know they can get away with this stuff.

It's almost as if it takes a loud alarm with the owner running out with a baseball bat. Obviously that involves a lot more risk but otherwise this just gets filed away with all the five finger discounts that take place at self checkouts even with all those cameras.

In other words, the crapholes who do this know vidoes and pictures don't mean anything anymore in a lot of places.

Thinkware u1000 with a Celllink NEO Battery. Expensive setup, you really don't need a U1000, could get a $100 camera that would do just as well. The battery pack, IMO, is a must for EV's but I know people disagree.

What interested me in the video is the man's technique. He used a point pressure tool, maybe a nail but likely something smaller with a palm handle and with a hardened point to rapidly and controlledly maximize sharp pressure. He knew to select the window's glass area he did, and not (for example) the center or the top of the glass. This points to practice and to experience and perhaps to coaching, which together may be an indicator of a group.

He probably just used a spring loaded window punch. We used to use them all the time on the fire department.

I can think of several tools that would do the job and are small enough to fit in his gloved hand. My point is that this is a trained, rehearsed maneuver. Indie operators usually are sloppy and mess up before they get reliably good at such things. Groups with hierarchies focus a bit more on function training, esp. for the lowest front line operators. All these are assumptions - these are mine.

This sucks, I’m glad I don’t live in an area where this is common. Looks like it didn’t do any damage that was too hard to fix to get it back to looking like new.

It doesn't matter if you have footage for the police if you have a Progressive DA that refuses to prosecute anything. If that's not the case, the plates on the video could be a stolen car or stolen plates. Still useless.

The only thing that will make an actual difference is having a criminal justice system that actually holds people responsible for crimes they commit. When people know they'll likely not even be slapped on the wrist, they have zero deterrent. Cameras are not a solution.

Of course now that these videos are all over the internet anyone can have a go now they know the technique even if not taught by a gang, they've now been taught by people posting videos on the internet of their break ins.
