I just picked up my 2023 MacheE Premium after waiting over 9 months. It's been a long and difficult experience. I bought the MachE sight unseen and never test drove it. I'm relieved that the car drives and handles well. I am coming from a BMW i3 and I really enjoyed how that car drove.

I'm running into 4 frustrating issues with the car:

1. The wireless charger

The wireless charger dangerously overheats my iPhone 12 Pro Max and constantly disconnects. I read that there is a fix for this (https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...y-charger-inoperative-poor-performance.16969/) If this is the case, why doesn't my brand new car have this update?

2. Bluecruise doesn't turn on
I drove across 60 miles of 405 highway and I could never get the blue cruise to activate. I followed all of the steps suggested (made sure the hands free option was enabled in the settings menu, checked the ford connected apps). I tried numerous times to activate bluecruise and it never worked. Is this something that needed to be set up by the dealership?

3. Washed out backup camera
I found that the backup camera was unclear and appeared washed out. My 2019 BMW i3 had a much clearer camera. I can barely see my surroundings when backing up using the camera. Does anyone else have these issues? Is there a contrast setting for the backup camera?

4. YouTube app doesn't support 1080p.
I charged up my car for the first time and put on the YouTube app. I selected a video and changed the quality to 1080p. When I did this I got several dropped frames and laggy content. This is 2023 - my fridge can play YouTube videos better. The Tesla plays cyberpunk and this car doesn't even play 1080 video.

  1. Yes it should have the wireless charger update. The phone will get pretty warm, but not burning hot (used to). It shouldn't disconnect though, make sure you center the phone on the pad as best you can. Lift up the rubber pad so you can see where the charger area underneath is.
  2. Did you remember to press the steering wheel button to activate lane assistance? You should see the blue bubble around the car. If you only see the { } around the car lane centering isn't engaged. Cruise control also has to be engaged first if you didn't know.
  3. Wipe the camera with a rag. How it should look: https://www.macheforum.com/site/attachments/255db09b-b142-43ee-b273-cc54333efb67-jpeg.57105/
  4. The graphics chip Ford uses isn't nearly as powerful as what Tesla uses. Plus it's also doing rescaling on the fly. Yes, they should probably upgrade it soon. It works fine at 720p, that's what I use. Any higher is pointless because the screen doesn't have the resolution to show it.

Wireless charging is grossly inefficient and creates a ton of waste heat. Especially if using CarPlay/Android Auto and GPS. Even with an update, inductive charging is just plain inefficient. I added a MagSafe puck over the charging pad. No heat at all and it holds the phone in place.

If I plug the phone in to a USB or USC cable will that override the wireless charging?

Disagree. My wife had her phone plugged into USB and sitting on the wireless charging spot. It got very warm trying to charge inductively and via USB… Moved it to the other side and it was fine.

Isn't the phone supposed to not charge wirelessly if it's plugged in? This isn't a car problem, it is a phone problem. Or a user problem.

Beats me, but it made an excellent hand warmer.

Some of the best inventions come from mistakes. Ford should market this as a phone warmer instead of a charger. I have a 2020 f350 with the same warmer, I mean charger.

As a charger the best it can do is maintain the current level.

I used to have a little i3 and still have warm feelings for it.

The wireless charger in the Mach E isn't fantastic, and as has been suggested, I have an Anker magsafe double sided taped along with the mat itself and it's a great solution to keep the phone from sliding around and to charge it properly. The Anker is black so it's not as conspicuous as the very white Apple puck. https://a.co/d/aGToDzL

The YouTube integration isn't great, but fortunately I think the car has other charms (and a CEO of the company who isn't uhh a distracted politicized twit) that make up for this.

Here's my charger setup

Bluecruise takes a few days to get activated as do all the other Ford Connected services. You will have only adaptive Cruise till the ford app shows dates for BlueCruise expiration, etc. The only thing that supposedly worked out of the box was the Ford Streaming Service which I dont use.

I join you in the complaint about BlueCruise not activating in the new 23s. Mine is failing to recognize when I enter into a BC zone. There are 3 different zones around the Wilmington area, and yes, the steering wheel button to activate adaptive cruise control was pushed on. I called and talked to Ford's OTA team in Michigan, (833) 389-0848. They told me they had been receiving other similar complaints recently on the 23s. They suspect the camera may not be reading when you are on a BC highway, but they were not 100% sure that was the problem. I went back to the Ford dealer and best they could do is schedule an appointment for me, mid-January so they can hook up and run a diagnosis.

Interesting, the lane change assist feature worked fine.

+1 for @Mach-Lee Blue Cruise tip - it took me a bit of reading of the manual (highly recommended) to realize it won't activate unless lane keeping assist is on. After that it worked like a charm.

Once the car detects a BC zone it will display a notification on the secondary screen. Just hit the cruise control button on the steering wheel and it will activate.

Blue Cruise is showing active in my Ford account with an expiration date, but Blue Cruise is still not working. I'll go out and try again today, six days after taking delivery. There are others with the same problem. Only thing to do is take it to dealer and have them diagnose the problem. Your service dept at the dealer can talk directly with Ford's PA Center (known as PAC) and figure it out.

It works like a charm in my 21 and appears to work like a charm in your 22, but it doesn't work in my 23.
