It’s just him talking about his experience over the year but he says a lot of things that are familiar to Mach-E owners

Since you watched this hour long video already, can we have a TLDW?
Alright, I took notes:

Paint/Body
  • Has matte paint that cannot be washed in a wash tunnel
  • Touchless car washes only
  • Scuff damage to matte paint can’t be buffed out
  • Hit a trash can, minor damage but numerous body shops didn’t want to touch an EV
  • Got a flat tire, TPMS alerted while leaving parking lot
12V Drain
  • Caused by leaving tailgate open overnight
  • Had to use a 12V jump pack to restart it
  • Infotainment update seems to have fixed it
  • 3rd party apps draining 12V battery on other Ioniqs
Other issues:
  • Car sometimes did not charge during scheduled window
  • He has to set a phone reminder to go plug it in at 10 PM
    • Has off-peak plan so can't plug in right away upon arrival
  • Car had many small software glitches that are frustrating
  • Way more issues than any other new car he’s ever had
  • Poor turning circle, requires 3-point turns
  • Android Auto glitch, randomly disconnects, phone has to be physically reconnected
    • Note: Doesn't have wireless CarPlay/AA like we do
  • Bose stereo lacks treble output
  • Heated seat controls buried in touchscreen
  • No rear wiper, road salt blocks rear window visibility
  • Early buyer, didn’t get car he ordered, had to choose from what was at dealer
Heat pump
  • 3.0 mi/kWh long term average
  • No difference in range down to about 25ºF
  • Heat pump stops working by 10ºF
  • Plenty of heat output even in single digits
HDA / Driving
  • Auto lane changes very picky about steering wheel torque
  • Very good lane centering, better than Toyota
  • Glitch/tons of errors after following a semi with shiny diamond plate back
  • Cruise sensor blocked by sleet
  • Car feels “unsettled” hitting a bump on a turn
  • i-Pedal (1PD) doesn’t turn on brake lights until you are completely off the pedal, very dangerous!
  • Level 0 regen completely disables regen (undesirable for most)
  • No audible alert lane centering disengaged, just stops working with no warning
  • On adaptive cruse, car doesn’t accelerate right away until full following gap is restored
Top likes:
  • Fast charging speed amazing
  • Comfy seats good for long cruising
  • Heat pump and good efficiency for size
  • Gives the actual DTC trouble codes in the consumer app

So yes, a few issues we also share with software and charging glitches, 12V battery drains, and usability.

I was very surprised to hear that Hyundai actually shows the trouble codes to the user in their Bluelink app. I wish Ford did this! Everyone could see their trouble codes in their app and have some idea what's wrong without having to get an OBD scanner or making a dealer trip (or asking me)!

The lack of a rear wiper was a big mistake, as well as the brake lights not turning on in 1PD until the pedal is completely released. He also said that the Bolt turns off the brake lights after stopping in 1PD? How is that legal? Ford totally did the brake lights right with 1PD on the Mach-E, I have zero gripes with how it works (decel-based activation, stays on while stopped) and I hope NHTSA makes other brands operate 1PD brake lights like Ford.

Biggest things I wish we could get from the Ioniq are the heat pump, which would make a huge improvement in winter range above 30ºF, larger PTC heaters for more heat (and faster battery heating), and 800V architecture for high speed (>200 kW) charging.

Wow, thorough, thank you!

I’d also like to add that I5 infotainment updates can be done by the customer with a USB flash drive. All the other types of updates have to be done by a dealer so I5 doesn’t have OTA updates currently.

Thanks so much for these cliff notes! I agree, the 800V charging and, for me, the more settled suspension are the biggest things I wish we had with the Mach E. I’m also a little jealous they have a sliding roof panel that closes off the glass pano, but that’s an “I live in the south” problem for sure.

The Ioniq 5 N (undergoing testing now ahead of release) has a rear wiper, so I would expect this to be an improvement added to all trim levels at some point.

Goes to show that we should all wait for 2nd gen EVs of any make before jumping in. Most of the issues are minor and should be fixed with the next version.

I don't think it can even go through most touchless car washes, can it? Most have some sort of wax or sealant which I'm sure is incompatible. I think the matte paint is going to be a short-lived fad as most people see how bad it looks after a few years. I've seen one already that was splotchy as you could tell they used a wax product on it.

Thanks. My step son owns an Ioniq. I'll have to tell him about the matte paint if he doesn't already know. What a PIA.
Here's a 25min video (?) on how to wash your matte paint car. Nobody is going to do this.

And here I am wondering how they managed to do a 51 year review on a one year old car ?

But seriously, thank you @Mach-Lee for the review review. I agree that the 800V battery with faster charging and the heat pump would be great additions to the MME.

Oh, and I know it's a matter of opinion, but damn that thing is ugly!

I don’t really think it’s ugly, just that the. MachE is much better looking. That kind of squarish small hatchback firm factor seems to be spreading in the EV inventory,
