I know this is a long shot, but I was about to purchase a used 2021 MME GT locally when I found that it had been lemon lawed in California. CA has pretty relaxed lemon laws, so who knows if it actually has a problem or if it just needed a small part and the previous owner decided to let Ford have it back after waiting a month at the dealership. Who knows.

I was hoping possibly they got another MME and are on this forum. It's a White GT with 16k on it. Looks like it was originally leased in Sacramento or Roseville around March 2022. It was lemoned in January 2023. I have the VIN and such to confirm it if anyone thinks it might have been theirs. I'm just hoping to find enough piece of mind to feel comfortable buying a lemoned MME, or else it will be back to shopping.....

I would think that the dealership would provide you with the repair history. Have you asked for it?

Lemon Laws in CA aren't that lax. You have to have it in the shop for the same thing repeatedly or for more than 30 cumulative days and it must be covered by an OEM warranty. True that in some cases a single HVBJB replacement that took a while could possibly qualify.

Lastly, Ford has 2 options in a lemon case. They can buy it back, as they did in this case, or they can absolve the loan/lease and hand over the title. The types of repairs and value of the car make the deciding factor.

What's the price of the vehicle?

It’s listed at $48k. The original options were the fancy white paint, Blue Cruise, and the pano roof. I hate the white, but a wrap or stripes will fix that. Otherwise I was ready to put down the deposit today until I found out it was a lemon. Now I’m not so sure. I can almost find exactly what I want (GTPE in grabber blue with these same options) for not too much more than this one plus a wrap.

If you can find exactly what you want for a little more and it doesn't have a lemon title then I would go with the one you want. It's not worth the minor savings in stress imo.

If you know the VIN, you can ask in the FDRS volunteers thread if someone can look up the service history for you and get an idea of how much of a mess the car was.

But I'd echo what Todd said -- unless this is such a smokin hot deal (and sounds like it is not), I wouldn't bother with a car that had a history of problems so major that Ford agreed to buy it back.

So I managed to get the service records for the one I was looking at. There was an issue with the gear shift module so it was replaced...and then there was the HVBJB issue, so that's been taken care of. I'm pretty confident that it's all good now, but the title is still branded obviously.

I'm a little nervous but also very excited to potentially finally get my hands on an MME.

If it does indeed have a branded title, just consider future resale. Will be harder to move this car down the road or get super low ball offers etc. I have no clue your long term plans here, but just something to consider.

The lemon is GT, not GTPE. I’m eyeballing a GTPE in grabber blue with a clean title for $5k more but it’s 1200 miles away.

Not sure if the GTPE has had the HVBJB done yet though. Is that a free/recall fix or do they charge for it?

Warranty? Not recall? Hmm. I will likely run out the warranty fairly quickly.

The warranty on the BEV-specific components is 8 years/100,000 miles. If you know the VIN of the GT-PE, ask one of the FDRS volunteers to run the car’s service history to see if the HVBJB has been replaced or if it’s manufacture date falls outside of the “old” HVBJV range. ??
