I would like to, but being in California, there are no cheap options. Example of California nanny state trying to protect us by doubling and tripling the cost.

so.... the failures occurred AFTER 'regular' warranty period?
what failed, and when by the way?

I never buy extended warranties.... I figure the warranty companies wouldn't offer them if they lost their bets very often. Standard warranty *should* be enough to get thru electronic failures.... which tend to occur within 90-day burn-in periods, except for batteries of course. Insurance should take care of accident damaged components like sensors and lights, less deductible of course.

I'm a little worried about the center console display, and how long that will last. not sure if that's 3-year standard coverage, or 8-year.... anybody know?

I am taking the advice of CR on this one. I will most likely be trading this car shortly past the regular warranty period anyways but if I do keep it, I would still not purchase the extended warranty.

I think of it this way. I am saving at least the amount of what a warranty would cost. In other words, I will pay no out of pocket cost. If I did buy an extended warranty, I would be out an out of pocket expense no matter what happens.

Now if a part fails and I have no warranty, I will pay it with the money I have saved on the countless other cars that I didn't purchase a warranty on.

I am going to be looking at the reliability ratings on these EV's and trade up in around 3-4 years. If something goes south on this MME I will not even consider another one. I have had extremely good luck on non-domestic cars so I will be looking at those with a fine lens and see what happens.

MPP (Mechanical Protection Plan) from Berkshire Hathaway; 5 yrs 125K, $0 deductible; $2,700. I keep my cars a long time but this is first time to buy warranty. As mentioned; insurance policy basically.

II wish i knew about the Flood Ford and other discounted warranty places. I bought mine from the dealer (doh!) but i got $2000 off for getting the Options plan so figured that paid for that. Oh well. I got the 5yr 150mile warranty not knowing I wasn’t going back to the office. We were in discussion when i bought my car, ( i travel normally 30k milE’s a year to work) so i go the higher mileage. Then a few months later they said dont come back. Been working from home since. Ive only got 15k miles on my car coming up on 2 years. Im glad i have it though. I tend to keep my cars longer so to me its worth it. Also have the glass/paint/dent wheel protection Ford gave to us early buyers.

also i know for a fact that many times companies lose money on warranties. of course they try not to, but when things are uncertain (e.g. brand new car, tons of new components) it's highly possible.

finally note that their parts costs are not necessarily the same as the parts price they charge you so you can imagine a scenario where they both make money and you win out...

all in all if i don't get $1200 in warranty repairs on this car in the next 8 years i'd be SHOCKED
Many times? No, house wins vast majority of times.

You would have paid Match b2b to powertrain? What?

Discount Tire 4 tire certificates well below $250.

1) Refund existing policy.
2) Buy Flood or Granger or Zeigler.

Those that study, craft and put together extended warranties know exactly what their doing. This isn't some small side gig....it's not like they put these things together on a whim. They have plenty of data and actuaries. It's obvious the house wins at the end of the day, otherwise these things wouldn't exist.

I bought a manufacturers extended warranty today on another car I have. Hopefully I won't use it, but it will be there if needed. I'm okay with that, if I never use it, that's okay too.

So I think a good point to make about warranties for cars, at least in some states, is that if you sell the vehicle, the warranty is refundable or you can cancel it at any time and get your money back depending on how long its been, if its past the manufacturer window, you get prorated.
I have received a refund from the past 2 Ford esp's I have purchased. Yes they were prorated. On 1 of the vehicles I had claims against the warranty and I still got the prorated price back when I sold the vehicle. So I will be get an esp with every Ford I buy. Granger Ford is the place I will buy from as well.

Can you explain what you mean by "being in California, there are no cheap options."

I have never purchased an extended warranty; nor gap protection; nor service contracts of any kind. The many tens of thousands of dollars I've saved on not playing a losing bet can definitely pay for any kind of non-warrantied work I might need to have done.

With vehicles purchased at a dealer (used or new), we used to negotiate the extended warranty, etc. down to whatever lowest price they would offer...decline it, and then bank that money virtually (i.e., just account for it in a spreadsheet). We never used even half the amount on out-of-warranty repairs on any vehicle.

We've had a lot of vehicles.

California is now regulated like Florida. No discounting.
When did this happen? It would have had to have been in the last couple of months. I purchased an extended warranty from Flood earlier this year for my 2021.

Edit: Just looked it up and I guess this started in May of this year.
