Here’s a new one for me! So made several trips to the hardware store (there’s never just one right?) with my MME using my PAAK, no fob. The last trip I bought my 25 cent washer (with my parking meter coin stash cause I didn’t have my wallet) and then got into my beautiful MME to return home. Pressed the start button- “No Key Found!!). Duh. (My ‘wallet’ is glued onto my phone …duh.). My phone was probably sitting in the garage. Oops. Rescue call to my bemused wife, fortunately the hardware store is close and my wife is tolerant.

So - It let me drive away with no fob or PAAK. A warning notification “Hey idiot - if you turn the car off anywhere but where you are right now, you’re screwed “ would have been nice.

when I do this there is a warning on the dash saying no key detected.

If you know your door code and start code you are fine.

I often get No Key detected even when I definitely do have my PaaK enabled phone on me, it’s definitely not shy about sending this alert.

Strange, it won't let you shift from park unless your phone is very close by. And you should have gotten a warning on the dash "No key detected" after driving away so you know you'll be screwed.

Also this is why you set a backup passcode, in case PAAK breaks or you lose/forgot your phone.

So I think you need to go set up a backup passcode...

Yes, I do too occasionally, but you should mentally double check if you have your phone when you see it to be sure.

So as I said when I started it, the PAAK was nearby in the garage. So no ‘No key detected’ message upon startup or as I drove away without it.

Yes - my phone was nearby so no message on startup.

I set a long passcode, so that nobody could guess and drive away. Now, I can't remember it, but I have it written on my phone, and it's protected by my fingerprint. Everything is great and secure, right? But now, what happens if I left my phone at home, or lost it, or the phone battery went dead?
Ford should have followed better practices and made a face recognition, eye or fingerprint scan or something else instead of passcodes.

And of course a backup code. Which I do have - somewhere. Maybe in my ‘wallet’? But my wife needed something to do and I was too lazy to try to figure out the passcode.

If the phone is nearby, but outside the car - no warning message.

It is very hard to believe. I just tested it, leaving the phone on the hood above the charging port, and got "no key found".

Create a passcode that you can memorize.

I’ve had to use the backup code many times when paak wasn’t great. No big deal, there’s trucks to remember long passcodes.
