Oh wow, I just charged there on Thursday last week. In fact, I was parked in the same exact spot as you were and used the same charging station, lol! ?

Can you go back and confirm this charger is toast? The original post is BS. EA is not showing up within minutes and “rebuilding“.

"Customer reports charger burst into flames" might actually motivate EA to send a maintenance crew slightly faster than normal.

It only take an hour or two to swap out a cable, so that easily could have been done in the month since the incident.

EDIT: Looks like EA may have more problems than we thought:

You would think EA might have some detection to know if someone has run into its charger like that without someone needing to call them up. Perhaps a completely offline signal, or an accelerometer etc…..

No, I'm from the LA area and was only in San Diego for a couple of days last week. Besides, based on the timestamp in the OP's photo, it would be almost 4 weeks after it happened. When I was there, plug #1 on that station wouldn't work, but plug #2 worked just fine.

With that, I wish the OP would consider sharing an audio redacted video with the media because it would help bring attention to the issue of poorly maintained Electrify America chargers that can possibly cause thousands of dollars in damages to your car. The pressure on EA to respond to these incidents needs to build. They don't want anyone to know and are succeeding if people don't speak up.

2021 mach e GTPE. So just short of a month ago I plugged into a 150kw Electrify America charger and a minute or so later flames shoot out of the charge port. Fused and melted the charger to my car and melted all the charge side wiring harnesses. Bricked the car. 5 hour tow ride home ruined weekend getaway. Ford says they won't pay or warranty as the charger is at fault. Electrify America won't say anything. I'm having to use an insurance claim to fix the damages. Seems wrong on several levels. Any thoughts or advice from this forum participants? I have dash cam video of the incident so they can't say I did something wrong. The fire department the manufacturer and the Electrify America techs were all on scene. I was stuck there for hours as they rebuilt the chargers on that site and gave me "hints" as to what failed by quietly talking about the deferred maintenance the chargers exhibited.

Still shot of Flames...the video contains a large amount of file size.....and explicit language.

If I was in this situation, I will consult with a lawyer asap, this is a big and major issue, yes your insurance will pay for it but would you be at fault or no? in both scenarios even if I would not be marked at fault, I would still go with a lawyer, with your evidence, you may end up getting a nice compensation.

I would also ping a few local media outlets.

If everyone went with their insurance company, then EA would have 0 incentive to take any responsibility.

Was this the Mission Valley location?

Where in San Diego is this charging station? I am up in North County and charge down south a few times.

Let’s give the OP a chance to respond here. @Militant1 , we don’t doubt the veracity of your story completely, however, there are a few folks here who are of the opinion that without actual video of the incident, or a news story (because it is news worthy) the image is questionable, doesn’t really demonstrate what is happening, and could easily be faked.

I, for one, believe you, but if this incident didn’t actually occur, and this was an attempt to get a response from a forum, there are better and easier ways to do this.

My guess is that he did consult an attorney and was advised to stop posting online about it.

This happened at a address off of Friars Road...Fashion Valley Mall...next to a PF Changs. They did sent the service tech immediately out. They rebuilt the chargers at this station with my bricked and scorched car next to them. Then left me to fend for myself. No assistance in anyway to this point.
