I don't think we are at saturation point yet, but it's coming. The demand is slowing while the supply is growing. Tesla wouldn't have started the price war if their inventories were not growing.
Though I like my MME, and probably buy another BEV in the future, but I can perfectly understand why many (probably most) people wouldn't want one.
If they ever come up with Fuel Cells cars running on gasoline or CNG/LNG that will be a game changer as it will satisfy everybody.

After owning few EVs including two Mach Es, I am on the fence, I am in the market now for a new car, would let go of my Mach E, going back to ICE, I like to drive a lot, I can't take my $50k car to Phoenix or Vegas, can't really do a road trip ( I am not gonna add 1.5 hours to my 5 hours ride ) just to keep charging, for the price of my previous Mach E GT, at that time, I could've bought a C7 Corvette and Prius, which would have made so much sense, I have a few friends who are coming to the same conclusion, I literally helped 10 friends buy Mach Es from my dealer, only 3 of them kept the car till now, majority traded it for a Tesla Model Y, performance, ride quality and fast charging was a no brainer so I would imagine more people are doing that and that's why Mach E and other EVs are struggling to sale.
California. Different mindset. No one I know buys cars and flips them. We don't have lines for charging.

there's many better options style-wise than a Tesla though, I'd jump to an EV6 before I got a Tesla that looks like every car on the road, even with the price difference... also no CarPlay, which is a deal-breaker for the wife and also myself.. personal preference
I’m not seeing EV6s around at all. I can’t recall the last time I’ve seen one.

Yeah, cars are like Kleenex out there.

Much higher incomes, but cars are the same price across the country. Buying a new car is a much smaller % if your income in California than Michigan.

Didn’t you flip your first perfectly good Mach-E? ?
Yes. First time in my life I sold a car for a profit. But bought the exact same car. 100% identical except model year. Didn't jump brands. Bought again despite issues.

I’ve started to see a very significant number of Mercedes EVs out here. I wouldn’t be surprised if this has started to steal some of Tesla’s thunder.

A lot of people who bought Model Y Performance’s and Model Xs out here originally came from something like an E Class or GLE, and now EQEs are actually luxury vehicles and getting more common.

Somehow EQSs are all over the place too. A true luxury car despite all the noise about Tesla being a ‘new’ type of luxury.

EV sales are not slowing

https://insideevs.com/news/676580/us-bev-registrations-may-2023/

I also see plenty of EQSes… not sure if that is due to the insane discounts offered by MB dealers or folks with money buying them. I spoke to a few owners and they did not snatch up those $650/month lease deals on $120K cars so I suspect we’ll heeled types dropped $100K+ on them.

Yes and no. Some important data at the end of the article. Lots of “downs” year over year.

Tesla sold a crapload due to significant price reductions.

Other brands got a bump from the new tax credit.

And as soooooooo many new BEVs flood the market in a few years, it’s going to be a crowded market.

So while overall sales may be up, the individual models may suffer due to competition.

You can only deep discount for so long.

Data-
BEV registrations in the US (select models) - January-May 2023:

  • Tesla Model Y - 167,900 (up 103%) and 37.5% share
  • Tesla Model 3 - 87,200 (up 18%)
  • Volkswagen ID.4 - 14,094 ("more than tripled")
  • Ford Mustang Mach-E - 10,948 (down 29%)
  • Hyundai Ioniq 5 - 10,406 (down 3.4%)
  • Tesla Model X - 10,263 (up 7%)
  • Kia EV6 - 6,780 (down 29%)
  • Tesla Model S - 5,335 (down 59%)
  • Nissan Ariya - 3,501 (new)
  • Toyota bZ4X - 2,985 (up 1,558%)
  • Subaru Solterra - 2,442 (new)
  • VinFast VF 8 - 128

Just think. You could be one of 128.
