I think because practically nobody actually wants to buy them. They have tried it with death traps like the Smart Car. I laugh every time I see one. Smart when parked, dumb when driven.
Not Smart Cars -
I was thinking of the small diesels that I have rented: Mercedes A180, Citroen C3 & C4, BMW 125d, etc...

They were 4 passenger sedans that got phenomenal mileage and can run fast with other motorists on the motorway / autobahn..

If they were in the US, I would buy one!

I’m in the UK and have had no problem with my Mach-e. It feels no bigger than the Volvo XC60 it replaced. Love the car but just wish Ford would role out BlueCruise for MY21 and MY22 here. The car fits perfectly down single lane roads with passing places in the Lake District and Scotland. Parking spaces can be a bit tight here but that affects all SUVs. The UK has fallen in love with SUVs and crossovers and car parks have to adjust to the average car being larger. It’s a great choice in the UK.
I'd be deathly afraid of driving the Mach E in either central London or English rural B roads and unnamed single lane roads in the countryside where I typically prefer to visit.

I guess we’re just used to it. I’m always amazed at how wide your roads are ?.

The fun in driving an EV today on a trip is planning, at least for some. Arriving at the hotel with an empty battery is success, assuming the hotel charger is fast enough to get you to 100% by departure.

Leaving with 100%, either from home or hotel, buys you about 45 minutes of driving. And by charging at a hotel, you save about 45 minutes of charging.

My ideal days is leaving at 8AM, stopping to charge with 20% (about 3.5 hours), driving another 2.5 to 3 hours, charge again, do it once more, and then to the hotel. That comes out to a dinner time arrival, and charging overhead is about 20%. That's about 8.5 to 9 hours of driving and 1.5-2 hours of charging.

Yeah I've been wanting to take a trip to Sedona, AZ from Seattle, but it adds 7 hrs of time for charging (I adjust the mi/kWh to a more realistic 2.5 due to my GTPE driving habits ?)

Last I looked my local dealer had 55 Mach-E's either in stock or on the way.
There's a good chance there are a lot of customer orders in that count. My dealer was always showing inventory in 2022, but none of it was available to buy. Even a couple of Mach-Es on the lot were waiting for customer pickup.

It’s not “an over supply” problem, it’s “an overprice” problem.

For 3 years, the market has been severely supply side constrained. that allowed manufacturers to raise prices multiple times a year because “what are you gonna do about it”. Now that supply is easing up some, the boot is in the other ass, and they don’t want to lower prices to balance supply and demand.

I really think that will change by October once the UAW contracts are settled. Right now, the big three would just as soon have a large on hand volume as a negotiation tactic.

Yes, when I bought my '23 MME Premium last month, the dealer had all of them with green window stickers (customer ordered) on the lot.

The dealer says they average about 1 MME per day in sales and they have a constant flow of customer abandoned MME..

I only went thru with my purchase because I had a 2022 price protection, low APR rate, and $4500 PCO + $2000 incentive. Also had $500 Ford Pass points and $500 delivery destination credit. Made the $54K MME drop to $46K before TTL.

On federal tax credits alone, the Mach-E (along with many other EVs) is now $11,250 more expensive than a Model Y compared to 3 months ago. That's a huge swing. Like 20%. Of course demand has shifted.

Lol how many times are you going to post this same infomercial on the model Y?

Must be an alert you set up…….” Did someone say Tesla? Excellent car! Here is a list of features and how much range it gets!!!” ?

If you go 65 on a highway around here, prepare to be

Trying hard to put a positive spin on this ... There are some people who won't order a car and patiently (or otherwise) wait months for it to arrive, worrying that the dealer will add a surcharge at the last minute.

Having a bunch of BEVs in dealer lots will serve those potential customers. It will also help everyone learn what the actual market price is for those cars, seen and test-driven side by side with whatever else in on the lot.

My state, which doesn't allow non-dealer sales, has plenty of Teslas on the road bought by people who endured or enjoyed purchasing that way, without an in-state storefront. But we have few Mach-Es on the road, despite lots and lots of Ford dealers. Now that dealers can have cars on their lots to work their sales magic, let's see if the dealer model can win the day.
