I've seen these posts but never thought I would be the one posting. Was rear ended, or more accurately clipped, today with my 3 month old. Some POS lowered rice rocket took off and I wasn't about to chase him with my son in the car, but we all know how fast I would have caught up. Impact wasn't too bad, my son didn't even wake up. So no injuries which is great.

Damage isn't too bad. Broken reflector, paint that hopefully can be buffed out but maybe needs painting, and wheel damaged. No dents which is good. I'm most worried about the wheel since they only made these for 1 year and not many people even got this trim level. I'm told the body shop will try to repair the wheel before replacing. There's a good chunk taken out so I'm hoping a new one will be purchased. Doubt they can find this wheel used.

Working with insurance on getting the car seat replaced (CA State Law), but they don't seem to be doing anything about a diminishing value claim. Any advice would be appreciated, at 34 years old this is my first accident.

Sorry to hear that.

When we had the hit-and-run in Colorado, I was told that my own insurance won't do anything with diminished value. I had to pursue the other insurance company (they caught the guy) and my insurance wouldn't even get involved with that.

I think you should be able to get the wheel even though it was a limited edition. We had to get our seat cover replaced on our First Edition and that was just a standard order.

I know there have always been hit and run drivers. However, I remember in the old timey days most people would actually pull over, exchange license and insurance information and we would go our separate ways.

I am hearing more and more from work colleagues, aquantenances, etc. that people hitting you and running is common. I distinctly remember one story of a acquaintance getting rear ended on the freeway. They motioned for them to get off at the off ramp to exchange information, instead of the freeway (very dangerous standing on the side of the road). They both started to move toward the ramp and as soon as the person that got hit started up the ramp, the other person jumped back on the freeway and ran. How pathetic that people cannot take responsibility for their actions. Driving is not a right but a privilege. Time to start to put consequences for negative actions. Your rights end where mine begin. Ok, off my soap box now.

On that note, this is why I put in front and rear cameras, just in case. Not sure if the police have the time or bandwidth to do anything with the camera footage of the dirt bags car and license plate information. Another topic in another thread.

Bummer to hear. The wheel is an ice white edition Premium wheel. Even if a white wheel isn’t available, your body shop should be able to strip and paint a black Premium wheel to match the others. ??

I will never own another car without one. Both front and rear. I'm looking at one that has front/rear and inside (which could give you some side/side views).

Too many people don't have insurance and some extra eyes can't hurt.

Good point, I forget what a good body shop can do sometimes. I'm sure ford still has some of those wheels at least, it's not like it's an old car. You are correct Ice White Edition, only available in 2022.

I sure wish I had a camera now so that guy didn't get away with it.

Maybe ask around on some neighborhood apps to see if anyone witnessed it. I saw a hit-and-run once that was recorded on my dashcam. I posted it to the nextdoor app and the victim contacted me. Police went to the offenders house.

That's because the new thing now is not to do anything about it. In the old days they used to run after you if you stole from the store, now they almost ask you if you have everything you wanted to steal and say goodbye. Same here.

Sorry op, people can be such ahole losers. I had a driver run into me and total my car (I don't have a Mach-e) the ahole was stoned. Fortunately insurance took care of it.

Yup, morale of the story some people suck. I used to think a hit and run was a bad crime, seems commonplace now that everyone is sharing their stories. I called the cops, they could have cared less.

Ah, man. That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully you don't have the anticipated problems you are forecasting. Good luck.

Hit and run at 5 mos old.

Two doors driver side. My insurance stepped up and covered it no issues. The claim was covered under the uninsured motorist pool. I received diminished value. Only paid a small deductible.

I don't know what the decision making was on it. However I did tell my agent separately (not sure if anyone else in the claims process) that if I wasn't made whole I'd take my auto and homeowners elsewhere, and was ready to do it. I've been a long time policy holder over several cars and homes. They would have lost more on my premiums than the DV.

The worst of the experience was the body shop crew and paying for gas for 6 weeks. But I did have fun borrowing GF's 6-speed.

Maybe it is state based, but I was told a hit and run without knowing who the driver was (I mean isn't that every hit and run) I cannot use uninsured motorist pool. No issues with my insurance covering damages through collision though, but I don't think I can claim DV against my own insurance company. My agent is someone I've known since I was born so I do trust what he is telling me.

Glad to hear you were made as whole as can be after your accident.

Diff states, maybe. I actually had 2 police reports on file as the incidents happened at different times while the car had been parked and was never moved. I went for a walk after the first, returned later after having breakfast and it was hit again.
