100% battery only 187 miles!?

I have a 2022 Mach E GT with only 3,000 miles on it. I wanted to see what 100% battery would give me since I’ve only been charging to 80%. And the miles get less and less. This am 100% gave me only 187 miles…. Wasn’t this supposed to be giving 270 miles? Or at least 220 miles on a full charge?

After one of the power ups mine started giving low projections ever though the actual results were still in the usual range. Had to do a reset to get reasonable projections. After 30K miles I just experienced one of my best actual miles per charge.

First - Most of the people who reply won't likely have a GT. From personal experience, don't expect the EPA millage at all, or anywhere close to it with a GT unless it's all down hill or a lot of city driving. I believe the other trims are more accurate to the EPA.

Second - You'll probably have people tell you, "Why do you care, ICE vehicles aren't always right". It's as if they spend 45 minutes filling up with gas every 150 miles.

Third - Resetting the GOM doesn't actually fix anything. It's not as if the car will magically go further. It only appears that it can, which is just deceit and I'm not sure why people routinely recommend it. It's a good way to cause people to be stranded.

If you like to accelerate quickly and routinely travel on the freeway at freeway speeds then it's probably accurate. I used to drive mine on the freeway from Sacramento to Monterey (weekly) and I couldn't make it on 100% charge (184 mi). In the winter you'll be lucky to get 160 mi. Unfortunately the EPA on the GT trim for 75/80mph freeway traveling is wildly inaccurate in my experience.

The most I can get from a full battery is around 220 miles of summer weather highway range in my GTPE if I keep cruise control at 75 the whole time.

If you do a lot of hard driving, 80+ mph cruising, or whenever the weather dips below 50, that range is pretty realistic.

Ford’s original range estimates of 250 mi for the GT & 235 mi for the GTPE seem a lot more realistic than the final numbers. I think the fact that all of the trims except the GT have received increased EPA ranges since launch speaks to the fact that Ford knows this.

Just keep in mind it's an estimate and likely based on mostly city driving, and maybe some heavy right foot. That is not, ever, a guarantee of mileage. You could get more, or less. If I drive my F-150 at 85 MPH I would get sub 20 MPG, if I drive it at 70, it hits 24 MPG easy. If I accelerate hard off every light, it would average probably 15 MPG and my DTE calculation would be lower.

EVs are, amazingly, no different. How it's driven will determine the DTE estimate. Which is all it is, an estimate. You charged to 100% for effectively no reason because the number doesn't mean much. If you charged to 100 and then drove at 70 MPH on the highway, I can about guarantee you would go further than that, because it's just an estimate based on your previous driving habits and conditions. Some asterisks to that of course, if you drive in 20 degree F weather, or against a crazy headwind, or any of the things that also impact ICE vehicles, mileage will suffer.

Anyway, I wouldn't sweat it. When we did our first road trip in our MME, which spends 95% of its time in city driving, at 100% it said 260 miles. After about 30 miles on the freeway it said 255 miles to dead. Because it's an estimate and uses your most recent driving situation and adjusts.

Yeah. I do drive it like I’d be driving on a track pretty much all the time. You can’t get a GT and drive it around like it’s a Prius lol. I need to slow it down a bit I guess.

Looks like your car thinks your efficiency is about 2mi/kWh. It's possible if you have a lead foot and drive 90mph on freeway in inclement weather. But more likely, the GOM is too pessimistic for some reason. Try driving down to 50% of SOC and see how far you can go.

Yeah I’m always accelerating fast and driving hard. Living in San Diego so weather never gets that cold. Need to just slow it down I guess.

Yeah. Freeway I’m always about 80+ and a heavy foot. I’ll need to look up what soc means. First electric vehicle and need to learn a lot still.

One of the reasons I didn’t buy the GT was the lower range estimates/real life estimates. I went with the Premium Extended Range to make sure I was getting 310+ miles on a charge. That’s held true so far.

So why are you surprised that the range is so low? Was your expectation that it wouldn't change?
