My 2022 MME-GT is about 6 weeks old, I recently had a nail in the R.Rear Tire. I plugged the hole and aired up the tire using Ford’s supplied tire inflator. A week later I started to get a TPMS Fault from the same wheel. I just got back from the dealer, the first accused me of putting a can of fix-a-flat into the tire, I was adamant I did no such thing and explained what happened. Long story short they cleaned the inside of the rim and tire and replaced the TPMS under warranty. The service writer said there is chemicals in the inflator designed to seal the hole, but the customer should go to the dealer so they can have the tire repaired properly. Anyone have similar experience? Looking for a new air pump.

the pump has two settings: one to inflate and one to use the included fix-a-flat spray

it sounds like you unknowingly used the latter when you meant to use the former, and the dealer was nice enough to repair it under warranty anyway....

not sure what the intent of the post was but this is not only public knowledge but also explained on the product itself

Sorry, I did not know there were 2 settings on this inflator. Still learning. Thanks.

Do not feel any shame as there is much to learn with this vehicle. As a new MME owner, I did not know either when I, fruitlessly, had to use the pump on the side of the highway after I felt a change in one of the tires and the tire pressure indicator displayed on screen. Turns out the tire was irreparable because something tore a hole in the side wall. ?

At least it worked for you!

the dealer sounds like a dick, you were using the inflator as intended if you had a flat on the side of the road

That is correct, if you injected the goo it needs to be cleaned out soon afterwards and the sensor replaced. The tire also needs a permanent patch applied from the inside. You should read the owner's manual section about the tire inflator:

I didn’t realize a sensor has the be replaced after that is used. Any idea how much something like this would cost?

Sensor is about $80, with shop labor probably about $200.

You don't need a new pump. You need a new can of sealant, and then you should read the instructions to see the two settings - one with air, one with sealant - for the next time you need it.

I don't think the dealers have read the instructions on the inflator, either. I ran over something on the Henry Hudson in NYC Sunday that stuck in my tire, whipped around inside the wheel well a few times, and left a pretty good gash. I used the supplied inflator and goop (pretty easy to use once I deciphered the graphics on the sticker).

Ordered a tow from Ford roadside assistance, truck came pretty quick, easy order, he put it on a flatbed and drove it to Stamford Ford. That whole part was pretty OK.

Dealership is closed on Sunday (thanks, CT). Monday morning I missed a call from the service guy at 8.15am, so called him back every hour, got nothing until I finally walked over in the afternoon (maybe 1/2 a mile). Service had no idea why the car was there (obvious flat tire, plus one would think Ford Roadside Assistance would have provided some info, since they got the car there in the first place (maybe tag that as a separate topic for discussion...)), so had to run through things 14 times.

Anyway, after much hemming and hawing, he got the tech to look at it. Apparently they don't patch any tires any more, just put on new (of course). Also, they said they needed to wait an extra day to let "whatever you put in the tire" to cure so it wouldn't spray in the tech's eyes (I read that as 100% Class A Purebred Horseshit covering for "I don't feel like doing this right now, and I don't have a tire in stock anyway"). They were confused because it wouldn't take air, and they couldn't get any more air out (hmmm, clogged valve stem, perhaps?).

If the tech is to be believed, then Ford provides an inflation kit intended to get you to your nearest dealer so they can fix the tire, but they can't fix the tire if you use the inflator because it's dangerous to the techs. Somehow, I don't think that's quite correct...

Does anyone know if I can use my points to get a new inflator kit?

All you should need is a new can of goop.

The back cover of the assembly blew off, which concerns me for its suitability for re-use. Plus, just want to use up my points!

Yup. That's a reason to never use the goop unless you have to.
I also have a AAA membership, for sure I will use a 'free' tow with AAA before using the goop myself unless I am in a really bad spot.
