We have a MME already as our primary “family“ car, as well as a 2014 Prius. In general, my wife gets the MME and I get the Prius on days I need to drive. I don’t hate the Prius, but I also don’t love it. I’d rather love the car I’m driving - so we’ve started looking at used MMEs in the area. I’m a long-time-lurker first-time-poster who has found a few GTPEs around that are relatively affordable. From 2021, I see a couple GTPEs under $46000. That’s my strike price, but I feel like I’m probably skipping over the things that matter long-term.

One of the cars is Ford Gold Certified, which seems to provide a warranty better than new for the power train: “7-year/100,000-Mile Limited Powertrain Warranty Coverage”.

So, should I do this? Or am I missing something? I feel like I’m comfortable with the HVBJB risk; I want to know what I’m missing because a two-year-old car for around 40% off sounds like a really good deal.

Looking too at Premium models. Dealerships are mostly clueless. Telling me Blue Cruise doesnt exist on Premium with 360 degree co pilot but does exist on their GT model. Of course this person was just reading off the window sticker.

I would see if I could get all the module updates done at the dealer as a condition of sale. Get service to check the VIN to see if any pending updates in the last 60 days.

Love the screen name. ??

Factory electrical drive warranty is 8 years or 100K miles. 7/100 sounds weird to me unless they’re giving you 7 from your purchase date. Either way, sounds like a decent deal if the car doesn’t have an extreme amount of miles and is in good shape. An extended warranty on the other stuff might not be a bad idea if the dealer gives you a good deal on that. ??

My '21 MME Premium AWD ER has the BlueCruise Feature. I have used it. It is not listed on my window sticker either as such. Check for "Ford CoPilot360 Active 2.0 Prep Package." It usually kicks in when I engage the Adaptive Cruise Control.

It should also have a Mobile Charger 120/24V as part of the original equipment. (In a black carry bag.) Comes in very handy!

i'm sure others will chime in with early build GTPE things to watch for.
I don’t really have a lot of real issues with my GT-PE. The seats used to creak a bit. It needed stiffer anti-sway bars (personal preference), it needed a physical button for the rear lift gate. Those things have been tended to on my car. ?‍♂?

The one thing about BlueCruise that’s easy to tell on a GT-PE is: Glass roof. If it has the glass roof, it has the Ford Co-Pilot 360/Active 2.0 package that is mandatorily bundled with the glass roof. If it doesn’t, it’s incapable of supporting BlueCruise. ?‍♂?

Thanks. There is an ota update to enble blue cruise on such vehicles. Internet salesman doesnt know this. With the car label Ford certified Blue Advantage and with hvac module replaced at the big Chicago repair center, I question if the dealership is really into EV sales.

I just picked up a 2021 AWD Ext Range Premium on Saturday. Dealer had it setting on their lot since last September! Clean title one owner with 20K on the odometer. One of the conditions of the sale was the updating of modules which they had started the process before I purchased it. They are finishing up the updates today. It is a Job 1 car that has BlueCruise 1.0 free for the remainder of 2023. Because it is a 2021 I will have the option to extend BC for three additional years for $600. Hopefully it will update to 1.3 before the end of the year.

I did walk in there with a ESP quote from Flood Ford that the dealer practically matched. 7/75 Premium Care for $1400. $100 deductible. Plan includes keyfob repair/replacement with no deductible and first day loaner Didn't have to pay sales tax on anything as we traded in our Bronco (which they were generous on the trade in value). Overall, very happy with the used purchase given the same exact vehicle stickers for 60K and I managed to buy it for less than 40K.

Congrats on the new ride!

That 7/100 powertrain warranty is kinda funny though. Depending on the service date of the original car, it’s maybe giving you an extra 6 months beyond the factory 8/100 powertrain warranty.

As it happens, I didn’t get the Ford Certified one, but a different GTPE - this one has less than 11K miles on it and looks to be in pristine condition, so lots of factory warranty left for me to find any latent problems.

One down-side to buying an 2021job2: there are a handful of little behaviors or functional areas that don't feel as polished as the newer car. Based on less than 12 hours of ownership:

  • The automatic-high-beams headlights jump from low to high (rather than the quick fade of our 2022)
  • DCFC never got above 62 kW, rather than the ~100 kW average of the later model.
  • BlueCruise hands-free, while available, was a bit ping-pongy and felt like it wanted me to take the wheel more than the '22 would have
I suspect that there are a number of module-level updates that OTAs haven't taken care of. As we now have two MMEs, I'll likely be buying the hardware to run FDRS myself and do any manual updates, just to get both vehicles up to the same baseline.

Yeah, sure, I could have my Friendly Local Neighborhood Dealer take care of it, but I presume there'd be a charge and I'm exactly that nerd who gets some perverse satisfaction out of doing it himself.

On the plus sides though, I have the kick sensor for the hatch which makes my wife quite jealous, and the acoustic front windows really do seem to make a noticeable difference in wind noise.
