I actually test drove a Model Y this morning; although I have an MME on order, I wanted to to get a comparison between the two cars and I hope to get an MME test drive in another few weeks.
I really enjoyed the Model Y. In terms of handling, braking, steering, and acceleration, it was pretty refined. However, I didn’t get the sense that this car was put together as well as I expected...there were disconcerting sounds from the frame and windows while on the road; seems like there are some engineering and manufacturing refinements that are still lacking with the Model Y. I currently drive a BMW and am used to a nice tight vehicle frame that doesn’t creak or rattle. I also expect Ford to manufacture a vehicle that delivers better from a structural standpoint (as compared to the Model Y).
I don’t worry too much about range differences now. My guess is that the MME’s range is going to end up closer after software updates. With a 99 kWh battery on the ER version, I would be surprised if Ford doesn’t tweak the range higher (and closer to Tesla Y) through software refinements.
First, I would wait to read the reviews on the 15th (as our Mach-E Vlog friend says). Second, you need to get behind the wheel of the MME and feel it for yourself.
Lastly, the MME is simply a better looking car. Teslas are ok, but their design is getting a bit tired. Ford put more design effort into the exterior and interior, and it shows.
