I actually test drove a Model Y this morning; although I have an MME on order, I wanted to to get a comparison between the two cars and I hope to get an MME test drive in another few weeks.

I really enjoyed the Model Y. In terms of handling, braking, steering, and acceleration, it was pretty refined. However, I didn’t get the sense that this car was put together as well as I expected...there were disconcerting sounds from the frame and windows while on the road; seems like there are some engineering and manufacturing refinements that are still lacking with the Model Y. I currently drive a BMW and am used to a nice tight vehicle frame that doesn’t creak or rattle. I also expect Ford to manufacture a vehicle that delivers better from a structural standpoint (as compared to the Model Y).

I don’t worry too much about range differences now. My guess is that the MME’s range is going to end up closer after software updates. With a 99 kWh battery on the ER version, I would be surprised if Ford doesn’t tweak the range higher (and closer to Tesla Y) through software refinements.

First, I would wait to read the reviews on the 15th (as our Mach-E Vlog friend says). Second, you need to get behind the wheel of the MME and feel it for yourself.

Lastly, the MME is simply a better looking car. Teslas are ok, but their design is getting a bit tired. Ford put more design effort into the exterior and interior, and it shows.

Best advice. Read/watch the Mach-E reviews after the embargo is lifted on December 15th. There will still be some unknowns, but there will be a lot more expert opinions out there based on actual test drives. Waiting a week won't make much difference and you will have access to a lot more info then.
THIS. I think if you research real world range on the Y at highway speeds (insideevs.com) and compare that to what comes out next Tuesday you'll see that they Y and MME are closer in real world 70mph driving than their EPA estimates would suggest.

It's certainly your call, but a $50k decision should be based on real data.

I went to the MME show event at a dealer out of state this weekend. Since I was also visiting SLC I decided to test drive the Y. I was super impressed with the power and handling. The interior was very bland, and almost felt unfinished. However it made me take another look.

I have put together a spreadsheet and some of the big selling points are better warranty, much better range, than the MMR and available in 2-4 weeks. It is more expensive after the MME tax credit, but I won't see that until mid 2022 now (since 2020 tax year will not be possible).

Talk to me about range. I need AWD and will get the MME premium with extended battery. I also live in a cold climate (Idaho). My commute is 100 miles per day, which is why I am going electric, but that doesn't worry me. I often do weekend trips to Utah (250-500 miles each way depending on who I am visiting) and to the national parks (200-300 miles per day).

What can I realistically expect for highway range, in the winter with the MME AWD extended range and the Tesla Y long range (not performance)?
Yeah this Tesla vs Mache crap is getting So tiresome. It has been stated and restated, calculated and recalculated, over and over and over and the Mache comes out on top every time.
I notice you are brand new here.
Why not do the research?

Others have said it but the media embargo lifts in exactly 1 week. There's literally no reason not to at least see what those have to say. If what they have to say convinces you to order a tesla, then you can do that. I guarantee they'll still sell you one next week.

But don't make a $50k/multi year decision based on what's available a few weeks sooner. That's a lot of potential regret for a very short term gain.

I had considered a Model Y, but the fit and finish of Teslas are horrendous. The two founding partners of my company leased Model Xs and although they had the cool factor, one of them was always at the service center for miscellaneous problems and the other one had so many panel gaps and leaks that it made me question what made them a $100k car.

Then there are the horror stories of waiting months for service. Same boss from above had a major leak in his roof where rain would pour in. He couldn't get serviced until 3 weeks down the road because the service centers were so packed fixing other rushed, flawed problems with other people's cars.

You see the things online of the model Y's roof flying off on the highway directly after picking it up. Shortly after, a Model S did the same thing. Then there was the one where a guy took off the plastic cover in the frunk only to find that a crucial cooling element was fastened onto the car with wooden dowel rods and straps that you can find at home depot, clearly a last minute jerry rig to get it out the door.

Finally, and most importantly for me, there's the absolute douchebaggery from Elon Musk. From calling a diver who saved a soccer team from a cave a pedophile simply because the guy criticized Musk's ridiculous attempt at trying to upstage with some James Bond-esque submarine, to his handling of the coronavirus and spreading misinformation early on, to his lack of accountability for all the major problems that his vehicles have and even going so far as to blame the drivers when parts fail and the vehicles crash. I refuse to give any of my money to him.

I tried to buy a Y at the start of the pandemic, but after careful inspection of several brand new Y's, and reading the Tesla forums, the quality control is so bad that I couldn't get myself to do it regardless of the extra range.

Personally I prefer the Mach-E...however I have just cancelled my MME reservation and ordered a TM3 while waiting to see the Y model come out in Europe.
Why? Because of the access to tesla superchargers in addition to the existing fast chargers...

From a Ford Rep I chatted with via instant message on Ford's website.
Ah, well, I hate to break it to you, but they were wrong. The owner's manual is very clear. The Mach-E is not rated to tow anything at all. At least not in North America.

Never trust what you are told by instant message. It's usually either a bot or "Julia" is really some sub-minimum wage guy in India who is chatting about shoe purchases on the other screen.

Here's what the manual says:

What I saw from the pre-build MME's, the quality all over looks much better. I think it's amazing that Ford is producing a new platform BEV form scratch, get good specs and certainly a better interior and a much better look for the pricetag. Even if the price is the same as the MY, I think the Ford offers more value for money.

Yes, I know, the Tesla goes faster, drives longer on a charge, has better numbers all over the place. But most cars are bought on emotion, not on numbers. And the MME is just touching more emotional buttons than the rather over engineered Tesla. And don't get me started about the issues: repair centers receive a big crate from Tesla with the ordered parts for broken Tesla's (the weeks wait where everyone is complaining about). The repair shop has to sort out the parts that's being thrown into the crate and find for which car it's meant. Then about 10% of the delivered parts are damaged or simply wrong. When the parts are finally sorted out, it's often not enough to get te car on the road again. Missing parts will be in the crate for next week's delivery. Great customer experience, I expect Ford to do better on that.

Finally, every time I pass a Model 3, I have the feeling they forgot to put in a dashboard. Call me conservative when it comes to cars, but the interior is where I spend all the time driving and I want to have a good feeling when I'm in a car. Just an iPad on his side and some plastic wood-trims does not really excite me.

Thanks to all of you. I totally agree. I am sticking with the MME, even if I have to cancel and reorder at the cost of months in delay.

Upgrade time.
