Opening the back doors

I have read the manual, however, I still have questions about the rare passenger doors.
A while back I asked about the boot, and why I need to press the button twice sometimes, when trying to open it.

So, to confirm if the car is locked, and I want to open the rare passenger doors, I need to press it twice, right?
Once to unlock (where it checks for a key or PaaK), and then another time to actually open the door, no?

The rear doors operate the same as the front. If the car has recognized your PaaK or FOB, it I’ll open on the first push. Sometimes it takes a push for the car to wake up and see the key, then another to open.

And, just to clarify. If you and someone else approach the car, you have a fob/PaaK, they have nothing. You can unlock the car and open the door. They can't do squat (unless you have it set to unlock all the doors for you which many advise against for safety reasons). Then, when you get the door open, hit the unlock button and they can open their door.

I use PAAK exclusively. I have to make sure my pocket with the phone is within an inch of the body, and it almost always opens on the first press. ?

And sometimes it takes 9 or 10 presses. And sometimes it won’t open at all until the front door is opened. It’s like a game! And especially fun when you’ve got guests or an armful of groceries!

I park the car. I get out of the car. Close the drivers door. Instantly go to the rear door to get my bag which I keep in the leg room there. And - it never opens on the first push. I feel like I usually have to press the button 3 times - but I guess I'm just pressing too quickly. T

There's more than one thing that goes wrong here, right? I don't understand why the car has to lock literally the second I close the drivers door. And then it doesn't recognize that I want to open the rear door right away? Not sure what exactly is going on to be honest. But that happens every single time.

I know people here complain about a lot of glitchy software stuff about this car. I don't really care/notice most of them. But this is the only thing that really bothers me haha.

Correct. The walk away lock is very handy, but it is overly sensitive. I’ve asked Ford many times to allow us to set “safe zones” like garages where the car overrides the walk away lock. But I guess Ford doesn’t think the location is accurate enough to distinguish between inside a garage and outside on the driveway.

I am usually 50+ feet away from my car before it locks. I sometimes look back to make sure the mirrors have folded in, but the push notification from Fordpass saying the car has been locked using the walk away feature is also reassuring. It never locks immediately upon closing the driver's door while I'm still standing next to the car. When I have a fob with me it always unlocks any door on the first try. The only exception is the rear hatch, which if I press the button near the license plate it will sometimes only open a few inches, and then open fully with a second press. When I'm using PaaK without a fob, I do sometimes have to hit a door button twice or even three times.

9 to 10 presses something is wrong with yours. Max three when in a deep sleep; one to wake it up, one to fold out the mirrors and one to pop the door. After it is awake and driven it is first time every time here. There is no difference open the rear or front doors. I use kick on the hatch and it works the best of them all.

If it doesn’t open or respond by three presses, open up the Ford Pass app and it’ll open on the fourth. Doesn’t help with groceries in your arms, unfortunately. I’ve stood there looking like I’m trying to break in for way too long.

Hmmm, my walk away lock never really works right on my GTPE. Also, I have to open the front doors first if the car is locked and my fob and phone are in my pockets. I like PaaK, but I really don’t mind having my fob, and PaaK was just too flaky for my first year of ownership, so I got used to the fob. I generally don’t mind it that walk away doesn’t work, I either hit the button on the fob while close, or if my hands are occupied, I’ll do it in Ford Pass when I set things down.

I use the phone exclusive but still carry the fob in a faraday. No problem here with walk away locks. Have lights and mirrors enabled but no honk and it just works ?‍ Takes some time. May be a fix for that?

Give her the FOB to carry and see if that helps. If that works get 2 and let her carry one as a back up for you. I think the key needs to be close to work. I can get into any door and the rear first when the phone is close.

If it gets to that point, and your hands are full, why not just enter the door code?

Your girlfriend will never be able to open the back door, without a fob or PaaK on her person, if you're at the front door, until you open the front door AND you have the car enabled to unlock all doors (considered a safety issue, which is why you can set it to open the driver's door only).

If she has a fob/PaaK, then SHE needs to have it within the 3 feet of the door when she pushes the button. If it's in a purse, and the purse is behind her as she pushes the button, it may not open.
