I experienced the same SD card issues as Steve. (I replaced mine too.)

As for hard wired to a hot fuse, mine is as well and it’s been like that since we installed it a year ago. I’ve had no issues, even when I was gone for about a month last year. (The car eventually went into deep sleep, but it woke up on literally the first button press when I got home.) And to clarify, the host-fuse-wired dash cams don’t record 24/7. They instead have impact sensors that record if triggered (while the car is off). Evidently that circuit is very low power, so it’s not draining the 12V battery much…
If I just do the regular plug and play within the mirror housing, do you think it will cause any problems….?

Likely not. The power that comes to the housing is switched, so you'll not have the ability for the cam to come on if it detects an impact. But if that's not important to you, then it should be fine. Note that if you want a rear cam however, then honestly it basically no extra work to wire into the fuse box rather than piggybacking on the mirror power. There's lots of discussion about all of this on this thread: My Journey with FITCAMX (Dash Cam with OEM look)

I bought the Front/Rear 4K system and it is great! It's very easy to install, and a great, seamless fit. My only issue is that the FitCamX app fights with my Android projection wireless display Wi-Fi connection. Both don't seem to be able to be active at the same time. I end up temporarily disabling the Android connection and then can easily connect to the camera from the the app. Of course this is only an issue if you want to use Wi-Fi to download any videos. A simple alternative is to eject the micro SD card and download the videos from it to your PC.

The camera would record 10 second to 1.5 minute clips and there were lots of drop-outs and huge gaps between the recorded clips.

That'll happen if the SD card can't handle sustained writes of at least 20MB/S. I had a SanDisk High Endurance card that started experiencing the same issue, and when I tested it, it would only write at 18MB/S. Must have just been a bad card because I had several other cards of the exact same model that all tested over 60MB/S.

Mine was in the kilobits per second area. I still have the piece of garbage but I should throw it out. ??

My fitcam came with a 16GB (yes 16) generic card. I replaced it with a 256GB SanDisk High Endurance card. Has been working fine.

Just installed the FitcamX in my 2021 MME here in Canada. Very simple installation. Love to OEM look and the price (Amazon.ca 5% off coupon was a bonus). I purchased the front/rear camera version but only installed the front for now, as it's fricking freezing outside and I will want to really understand the process for running the cable to the back of the car (nervous about popping clips).

No issues for me having to get off of the MME Wi-Fi, as downloading videos is not an option for us up in the great white north.

I did the same on my 2021. I had the dealer run the rear camera wire when they took the headliner down for the sunroof recall. I did have to label it front and back for them though. :)
