Another issue: android auto wifi alaways overrides the camera wifi. So before connecting to camera I have to turn off android auto. :(
That’s how it is with anything. Heck, even my home WiFi won’t properly turn off CarPlay. You have to just disable it in settings when you want to access the camera, which is hopefully rarely after you set it up.

OK the answer came to me in my sleep at night... yes I did wire the radar detector with mirror taps and the Thinkware dash cam with a long power wire down to the fuse box. I (obviously) don't need the Escort radar detector on when parked, and the Thinkware while parked does operate until the car battery draws down too far.
Can you show me how you wiretapped the mirror for your escort radar, please? Plan to do, fitcam and radar in the next few days and don’t want to mess it up.

I'm on a trip chasing mammoth traces across the Frozen North right now... will pull off the ceiling plate and send you a picture on my return, o.k.?

Just installed the Cam. When I was prying off the original plastic piece some plastic clip fell off from inside :( . How bad is it?

After installation all tabs seem to snap all the way in but there is still a gap between the plastic piece and the roof :(

See the original FitcamX thread. This is a known fitment issue. i used a heat gun to bend my plastic work and went too far. I relieved it some, but not enough. Nobody but can tell other than me. 🤷‍♂️🐩

I finally got my Thinkware U1000 hard wired in. I used micro fuse 3 tap at fuse location 1-2 for ACC power, and micro fuse 2 tap at fuse location 24 for BATT. I found a good 10mm bolt for Ground at the structure just to the right of the cabin air filter. I tucked the rear camera wires under the trim at the floor.

My biggest pain, was trying to fish the wire through the rubber conduit at the rear lift gate. I used a Fish Tape lubed up with petroleum jelly and worked it beside the wiring bundle until it popped out the other side. Then I used lockwire to secure the rear cam cable to the fish tape end, wrapped it in electrical tape, lubed it up, and pulled it through. The rear camera peeks out just underneath my "EV OK" HOV sticker on the rear window. Works perfect with my new 16" wiper. Turned out good.

I installed the FitcamX today. No photos or anything else. The fitment issue bugs me, but that's not a huge deal. The hardest part was disconnecting the rain sensor plug. Because of the fitment, I pulled the cover off to try to make it somewhat better and two of the clips stayed in the bracket instead of coming off with the cover. That took a few minutes to fix. Otherwise everything seems good.

I very much like the Thinkware camera on my motorcycle and would have purchased one for this but I didn't want to tap into any electrical nor run any wires or have such things hanging out. So, I chose the almost OEM fit of the FitcamX.

I just installed mine today. Getting the rain sensor wire unplugged was the hardest part really. Cut my finger trying to do it. It's much longer than expected. So far the camera looks great. Going to have to play with the settings a little bit but I like what I see. I wish the app interface was a bit more streamlined, but that's a personal preference.

Anyone come up with any good shortcuts to downloading the files from the camera? Or workflows even? I might switch between two SD cars when I need to pull files.

I was never able to connect to the camera's wifi server, so I just pull the card and plug it into my computer to transfer the files. I do wish I could get longer videos. 3-minute clips is kind of a pain to deal with (although ffmpeg on a linux machine makes it easy to concatenate the files into one massive video).

If you are using an iPhone, you need to somehow disable CarPlay (either by turning it off or breaking the BT connection to the car) in order to get a WiFi connection to the camera. Personally, I just pull the SD card and plug it into an USB adapter. 🤷‍♂️🐩

I use Android and had turned off bluetooth and had disconnected from Android Auto. I still couldn't get connected to the camera's interface (the wifi connection worked, but the app wouldn't fully connect). It's fine. I'd like to change some settings, but it's not a huge deal. The 2.4 GHz wifi is terribly slow, so I'd pull the card and plug it into an adapter for use anyway.

Yeah I might just do the pull SD card when I want footage and replace it with a 2nd card. Then just keep flipping the two when needed.

There is a setting in the app if you can get the connection to go to change the recording limit to 5 minutes. Only suggestion I would have is to make sure your phone isn't trying to auto connect to your Mach E Wifi as well. It could just be getting switch happy.

Thanks for the setting info. It's not worth the effort for a 2-minute change to record time. I'll just do my concatenation when I finish a drive.
