It does beg the question though-

How are you supposed to legally learn how to drive without a license?

I don’t think I want a bunch of unlicensed drivers out on the road into “real traffic” for their tests. ?
Provisional Licence with a professional trainer’s your answer!

When I moved to the US, they had me drive for 10 minutes in a CAR PARK, to get my driving license. I asked twice, is this it, do we not go on the road, into real traffic? ?
I don’t understand your logic. If they take you on a public road, you might get into an accident!?

Might be showing my age a bit, but I learned how to parallel park on crowded city streets with no camera, no sensors, and with a manual transmission.

The only saving grace is that people then understood why we call it a bumper.

I'm trying to decide between a 2020 mache GT or a Tesla model y.

Pros for mache:
Auto Park
Lane assist
Is sexy car

Cons for mache:
Nearly half their cars produced have been recalled in the past 2 years.

Charging network is.... Questionable?

I rarely parallel park because I never learned and typically wherever a place has those spots is usually high traffic. (Meaning I can't practice without looking like an idiot) I would love an auto park just to get me started on the right angle even if I have to take over.

Tesla Auto Park is... Very bad. They included it but they really shouldn't have.

Ultimately I'm unsure how much I'll even use it in real world applications.

Any thoughts on whether you regret your purchase, charging issues, etc?
I love the external and internal design of my MME, but Ford hasn't the software expertise that Tesla has.
If the costs are similiar, than I would go with the Tesla because they have the best charging network and the best software enginners.
Although the Tesla will open up their chargers to Ford in May 2024, we don't know the cost that we will be charged.
Parallel parking is not that hard to do and there are YouTube videos that show you how to do it.
You should test drive both to format an opinion.

Auto parking features do not seem all that good on any car, from what I've seen on reviews, but I have never had a car with it to say for certain. That being said, if you are worried about parallel parking, don't get a Model Y. The lack of ultrasonic sensors makes it a lot less accurate in helping you park, which can be helpful in tight parking spots, and I don't think that Tesla has a 360 camera view, which is super helpful for parking.
In my opinion, the Park Assist on the MME isn’t crazy impressive. Overall though, it does a pretty great job from my time with it. It might scare you with how close and confident it seems sometimes, but it manages to get the job done practically every single time. You might leave the spot slightly crooked but it’s always been manageable lol

I’m not a fan of the GT because it only offers peak power for a few seconds. 0-60 it can match or beat the Tesla, but 60-100 the GT fades while the Tesla continues to accelerate.

Auto-park is a pain to use. It’s easier just to use the 360° camera to guide yourself.
I don’t think you may save a lot going used. The 2021 was $10k more than the 2023, and had growing pains. Most are still waiting on OTAs the newer models have.

If you want near-GT performance but for less, go with the AWD Extended Range.

I didn’t get a Tesla just because I thought the wheels were ugly. It’s a great EV, but too minimalist for my taste.

If you look at the trade in offers people are getting for used ones, you should be able to save tens of thousands on a used one right now vs new.

LOL My driving test was on real roads and onto the freeway. The examiner almost had a heart attack when he saw a 16 year old kid with a mostly brand new Trans Am (mostly new because I had already transplanted a mildly built high-compression 455 into it) waiting to take a driving test. I scored 99 on the test. ??

If you can’t parallel park, you have no business driving a 3.5 sec 0-60 car.
This does not follow. Parallel parking skill set has about zero overlap with aggressive driving.
