And, even though I am madly in love with my, MMEGT, I leased the bad boy because I know in 36 months batteries are going to be completely different out there and a 260 mile range will be laughable

I've been following the Audi GT closely and it's so tempting to buy a 2022 for 60k. 1 year ago it was 110k before Dealer markups.

But they seem to have tons of recalls and dealer buybacks that it's scaring me off.

My 2010 Prius was woefully out of date from a tech standpoint by the time I sold it this summer, but it was still a functional car, still being driven regularly now. I expect my MME to be out of date well before I get rid of it. I also used my old Mac powerbook thst I got as a hand me down from my husband until it was nearly 10 years old. I can deal with old tech.

That, and we drive it too much to lease. I hit 10,000 miles already weeks ago, and I've had the car 4 months.

Old tech is often good tech and quite effective tech. I drove my 2011 Prius over 200k miles and it still was getting 45 mpg combined and in the 50s in town driving. My 2015 Fusion hybrid is the same. Great mileage, great ride, low maintenance, bluetooth connections work great. We don't use carplay, or game through the car, etc.

In essence this video presents cost/performance. I usually drive vehicles until the maintenance costs exceed the performance value, which may not be how a lot of people evaluate how long to keep a car.

Other than removing the power restrictions on the MME GT, I really don't need or even want Ford to release any new features to the car. I just want them to fix all the bugs. I'm happy with the car as is. I don't want anything else to break with each new OTA "improvements."

I agree 100%! Our trade-in for our MMEGT was a 2015 jeep Cherokee that we had towed behind a motorhome for over 50,000 miles and had over 150,000 miles on the odometer. The electronics were starting to go goofy (we had early tech, adaptive, cruise control lane, centering and so forth), so we literally got out from under the car before it started to die, which is how I typically do things.

That said, my point of the post is that I believe battery technology is going to change so dramatically over the next three years that outright purchase is perhaps not wise (IMO).

Right now you can buy a lucid air if you have a spare $165K laying around that gets 500 miles to the battery charge... that battery distance should be ubiquitous in three years; then we will either purchase the lease for a 2nd EV and buy a new one, or trade in on a 500+ mile MMEGT :) . This is why we leased. ?

I wonder if people watch too many Sci Fi movies and just expect that a miraculous technological breakthrough is just a few years away.

The 2013 Tesla Model S says…… you sure about that?

I mean, this is what we thought 2015 would look like…..

I predict in the year 2040………things will still be pretty much the same as today.

My iPod from 20 years ago is built into my iPhone now, so I guess things are marginally better tech wise. ?

I believe tech is advancing MUCH faster than you think. In fact, it’s probably going faster than I predict., and I’m 70 years old☺

look, where generative AI was six months ago. Now? Welcome 2040?

I am probably fortunate in that my social group here in Huntsville Alabama includes a bunch of theoretical physicists and physicist chemists from UAH and Marshall space flight center.

Trust me my friends, the average car in five years will get 500 miles to the charge the really high-end ones may not need to be charged at all. No, really, think of the possibilities, if solar cells could be built into a wrap for a vehicle.

As I stated in my OP, 500 mile battery technology is already here. It’s just a matter of (shorter than you think) time.

Hum, Interesting that Ford is going to be offering custom wraps next year…?

They already have cars with solar cells.

The added weight and cost isn’t worth the 3 miles of charge you get per day.

Tech may advance quickly, but from invention to affordable consumer product take a looooong time.

And in terms of car technology…….it’s super slow.

Cars today are just incrementally better than cars of 100 years ago, and suffer the same problems.

And yes, that includes the electric cars of the 1920s.

So in 3-5 years……I don’t expect the 2028 Mach E to be all that much different than the 2021.

Just like how the 2023 Model S isn’t much different than the 2013.

I semi-agree. But people who buy early in an innovation lifecycle accept that risk. I think it’s also just a reality that cars depreciate. For me, I choose to enjoy the car and not get mired in what it’s resale value is.

The Mach E actually stands a LOT to improve. It could gain 800v architecture, high rpm motors or a 2-speed, better thermal management and wiring, etc. I think it is cars like Tesla, EV6, Taycan, etc. that won't have much to improve upon. Maybe higher energy density batteries by a few % or so. Solid State is the next industry leap, but Toyota has promised that since 2017, so...

Did you happen to have the phantom steering wheel vibration between 60 and 70 MPH?
Yes, I was one of the first ones to really call attention to it. Good riddance to that piece of shit.
